But yeah, the uguuu fan has become the face or at least a visible part of the fandom and really with no irony behind them. I guess this happen when Japanese things got out of being in-vogue. Probably when I guess the end of the PS2 era. The climate just changed and other things became popular and honestly I think you can line that up with gaming perfectly.

I think a lot of your fans from that era moved unto other nerdy sci-fi stuff. Doctor Who, Mass Effect, I don't know. Anime/Japanese games became less interesting with all these other smart and good alternatives popping up everywhere.

And there was a lot of uguu crap and I guess there was an audience here ready to eat up that shit.

Now, I'm not saying all anime is bad or whatever. I got in an argument with a dude when I claimed the PS2 days were overflowing with Japanese jrpgs that did'nt have to rely on uguu crap to sell. His (stupid) stance was that any fanserivce was the same. The girl from Dragon Quest VIII's boob jokes are on the same level as whatever the hell IF puts out.

He was obviously an idiot, but it also highlights my problems with how seemingly crazy all this uguu stuff has gotten.

I was playing one of the Sakura Wars games recently and yeah that game is about dating cute girls. The cute girls are part of the appeal. But it's so different in how you're presented. A "lewd" shot may be one of the girls in a nice dress and you can see her legs. It is'nt asking you to rub her tits with the in-game mouse. The girls are cute because thier personalities are fun an enduring. Not because they pander and seem sub-subservient to you. "Oh please jerk off to me master sama" is'nt the tone.

That's how a lot of this fanserive stuff now seems to me compared to back then. They've just said "fuck it, you want to camel toe and girls sucking on phallic candy while they mentally jerk you off here you go".
