Scrubs is classic, and nearly up there with Arrested Development as a GOAT comedy. Community had a spark when it started but then turned to garbage (haven't seen last season and a half).

Always Sunny...at its best it was perfect. At its worse it's painful.

i thought family matters was the whitest sitcom in history

It's certainly no Martin or Hangin With Mr Cooper.

Okay I change my mind.

It's not The Nanny and it's not Clarissa.

Full House.

Worst show ever.

full house was the launch of tahj mowry's career though.

Always Sunny is best comedy on TV.

Always Sunny tries too hard too often.

It's still fantastic, of course.

Tim took his kids to Pistons games, not the whitest show ever.

Did Frasier have any non-white recurring characters? Did anyone in the main cast ever interact with an ethnic minority?

EDIT: The guy who lived in the apartment above Frasier's.  :beli They introduce duke as an archenemy and he's in a grand total of 3 episodes.

the english maid is the closest you get I think. Maybe the retired police dad had some nominally ethnic former-colleague friend who was a one-episode appearance?

Mom liked Dr Quinn. Grandma like Touched by an Angel.

Weren't really sitcoms though...

What about Xena. :lawd

Do we know for a fact that Maris was white?

How are you going to talk about white sitcoms without mentioning Wings? Wings is the pinnacle of rich white entertainment. Joyless, derivative, utterly without meaning or merit, yet somehow on the air for seven consecutive years.

Look at this cast:

I have never heard of that show.
I guess it didn't have international appeal.

Quote
[Niles considers carrying around a sack of flour to practice for fatherhood]

Niles: Extra-refined. It's taking after its old man already.

Frasier: No Niles, that's the sugar. If we're going to do this, we're going to do it right. Now, here is the flour.

[reading from the label]

Frasier: Bleached, 100% fat free, best when kept in an air-tight container. It seems this one is taking after its mother.

Also the woman who co-anchors Frasier's show a couple times and works the Christmas parade with him is black.

I've seen this show way too many damn times  :snoop

god damn. Growing up with no pay tv channels I watched a lot of stuff that was aired specifically because it was cheap to license. Wings, Cheers, Rex [the german police dog], etc. I think I saw all the episodes of Relic Hunter before I saw an Indiana Jones film.

Seinfeld is the undisputed GOAT. I just rewatched the entire series a few months ago and it was so far ahead of it's time it's stupid. Almost all of the plot points are still relevant. Elaine not dating men who are pro-life? The sponge? Jerry being racist toward Native Americans without realizing it? George inadvertently shitting on lower class members of society through careless actions most people take for granted? You want to make a successful Tumblr, you start making Seinfeld .gif sets.

NewsRadio was dope as hell but gets super overrated by the holier-than-thou nerd community that always needs their favorite X or Y media to validate who they are. "Oh you liked Seinfeld? Yeah, it was alright. But NewsRadio was REALLY brilliant". FOH.

Parks and Rec is the best modern sitcom. Er, Parks and Rec before the last season and a half is the best modern sitcom. And it's one of the few shows with relentless optimism and general pleasantness that wasn't awful. Or was even attempted. Everything has to be depressing now.

Parks and Rec is still great.

Parks and Rec is still great.

 :-\

everyone is a caricature now. None of them are fully functioning human beings with personality quirks, they're just one note jokes. Andy is stupid and only stupid. Ron is manly and libertarian and only manly and libertarian. April is an uncaring asshole. Donna is pretentious. There's no balance to them as people. The best example I can give is the opening of Tom's restaurant in the finale, where April literally sabotaged the entire operation single handedly by taking orders like an asshole. April would never have done that before the last two seasons. She was someone who had a tough personality, yeah...but she looked out for her friends and would do anything to help them if they needed it. She would do it in weird ways, but she would make the effort. But now? LOL OUR MENU IS POOP

The yelling gay dude who is so unimportant to the show that I don't even remember his name is also dumb as hell and needs to get the fuck out. Or actually become a real person instead of a random yelling dude. Really, he's indicative of how every character is written now. You have your one personality trait and that's it. What is this, Family Guy?

Community has so many more problems though. God. At least Parks and Rec is still watchable.

I'm in denial, Pickles. 30 Rock is gone, Parks without Rashida Jones, Sunny is in a bad place, Archer has been off since s3, Community...phht, South Park sucks now, Louie doesn't want to make Louie a goddamn comedy anymore. I've only got Veep, Colbert, and Drunk History to get my laughs off with now.

Cool. Hopefully next we can get The Bore to admit that Archer ' s been off since S3.
You have my axe breh. I still watch Archer and American Dad out of habit but the only adult animation show I can fuck with right now is Rick and Morty. I'm also trying out The Venture Bros., season and a half deep and enjoying it so far.

Bob's Burgers is really, really, really good. Fantastic even. So is Brooklyn-99. They're both top of the heap with everything falling apart lately, but they would be great even in a strong comedy environment. You're right about Louie not being a comedy, it's definitely a drama, but I still enjoy it more than almost anything else. Brilliant show.

Archer...eh. I still laugh most episodes, which is enough. It has moments. I guess I was never that into to begin with so its decline is less steep for me.

Himu

  • Senior Member
Key and Peele is good too.

Louie is a great show. But these day not a great comedy.

Surprisingly very few. Off the top of my head the Chinese food restaurant (George cant call his girlfriend) and Bubble Boy episodes (Jerry loses George on the freeway). There are more, but not too many

We haven't figured out what the most white sitcom of the 90s is yet, let's not take on simultaneous substantial undertakings.

I think the closest Saoirse avatars came to being a trend was during Steam's Autumn Sale last year when 2 or 3 people in the Steam thread took my avatar and drew moustaches on it. But then what would I know. :p

Disclaimer: there's probably going to be no animation allowed in the most white sitcom of the 90s thing. Probably going to have to have some other rules like having to be on air for X seasons, too.
