Probably not related at all, but it was 20 years ago this Friday that the siege at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco ended.

Right. Like I said, it's probably not related, but I noticed that anniversary while checking up on some local news sites [Dallas-area].

Who cares about accuracy in reporting, it's all about speed. Get all the hits. How are the 24/7 news channels holding up? I heard Wolf Blitzer was asking people if they were gonna run next year.

The NY Post story is sketchy as fuck and I haven't seen it anywhere else.

A lot of things make me think this could be a domestic terrorist- date (tax day, anyone) and anniversary this week (branch davidians), similar MO to some of the bombings Eric Robert Rudolph carried out in Atlanta (the abortion clinic he bombed was around the corner from my best friend's house, and he used multiple bombs in that attack and possibly others)

Having said all of that, it's stupid and irresponsible for ANYONE to engage in baseless speculation.  I'd like to know more facts.

Seem he was near the explosion and ran away like everybody else but was tackled by some civilian. Apparently he is cooperating with the police but I'm guessing he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You know I think there is both a cultural and temporal bigotry going on here.  Had it been a German accused of bombing and it been 1915, you guys would have already been smashing the German shops.  Your preferential treatment of Middle Easterns is sickening.

Sort of a common sentiment in the middle-east when there's some tragedy in America, that "they now feel the pain that we have".

Mana's appointed himself as the forum's own news aggregator for this story, just like he did with the Christopher Dorner thread, and it seems that more than a few people find the linkspam more annoying than helpful.  "At least he's not posting Alex Jones" is rather a low bar to clear.

The person questioned in the hospital was a Saudi national, who was reportedly tackled and held by a bystander after he was seen running from near the scene of the explosion, said a law enforcement source who spoke with someone involved in the FBI’s investigation.

The Saudi man, believed to be a university student in Boston, is cooperating with the FBI and told agents that he was not involved in the explosions, and that he ran only because he was frightened. Investigators did not characterize the man as a suspect. No one had been arrested or charged by late Monday night.

By Greg Miller, Tuesday, April 16, 12:05 PM

U.S. law enforcement officials said Tuesday that a Saudi national injured in the Boston Marathon bombing is regarded as a witness, not a suspect.

The Saudi, who is recuperating at a Boston hospital, is in his 20s and is in the United States on a Saudi scholarship to study at a university in the Boston area.

The federal officials’ explanation echoed comments by a Saudi official at the country’s embassy in Washington. The embassy official said that a Saudi national has been questioned as a witness but is not regarded as a suspect. The Saudi official cited information provided to the embassy by U.S. law enforcement officials.

“We’re not aware of any Saudi suspect or Saudi person of interest,” said the Saudi official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the preliminary nature of the information.

He declined to identify the young man, but said he sustained serious burn injuries. The official said the victim is cooperating with U.S. investigators and granted permission for his Boston area apartment to be searched.

“He volunteered to have it searched,” the Saudi official said. “He is fully cooperating with authorities.”

He is one of two Saudi citizens who were injured in the attacks, officials said. The other is a female student who attended the race with her son and husband, and who sustained shrapnel injuries to her legs.

They are among thousands of Saudi nationals who attend college in the United States. The Saudi consulate in New York has dispatched a representative to Boston to meet with the hospitalized Saudi.

The fud about that Saudi Arabia student just won't stop

Quote
King Says Bombing Should Slow Immigration Reform
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told National Review that Congress "should be cautious about rushing immigration reform, especially after Monday's bombing in Boston, where three people were killed."

Said King: "Some of the speculation that has come out is that yes, it was a foreign national and, speculating here, that it was potentially a person on a student visa. If that's the case, then we need to take a look at the big picture."

He added: "We need to take a look at the visa-waiver program and wonder what we're doing. If we can't background check people that are coming from Saudi Arabia, how do we think we are going to background check the 11 to 20 million people that are here from who knows where."

2 people die, two dozen are maimed.

Elsewhere, like say in Iraq, that's how many people are killed on a daily basis thanks to insurgent bombings.
