George Zimmerman case became a crazy CULTURE WAR thing too. You had people who were basically constructing him into this heroic David that had toppled the drug raged out Trayvon Goliath thug. And then you had that dope who said being in the same room as Trayvon's hoodie was a spiritual awakening or some bullshit. And the calls for boycotts of Florida.
Saying they both fucked up and could have adverted the situation was treated like you wanted the other one (whoever said person "supported") to die.
The best part is how much gets dropped as people rage about what they "know" like how many of the details in the Zimmerman case disappeared from most peoples versions of events that was 90% of them projecting what they wanted the details to be, the Deen thing just became about her racial slurs rather than you know the complete shit way she was treating all sorts of employees mentioned in the case, as posted up above this Duck Dynasty guy said things a little more strange than just thinking gay, sorry homosexuals, are sinners like the stuff about Shinto. (And they didn't even fire him or cancel the show or anything, just "suspended him from filming" which is probably going to be borderline meaningless.) Not that he was saying much of anything unexpected from any profile on the dude. (With some of it being a hell of a lot more reasonable way to interpret than common views of some "respectable" people.)
And the people who seemed to know every "detail" of things like the Casey Anthony case. The one woman I knew who was transfixed by this and constantly talking about it, I don't think I'd want to trust her opinion over what to drink from a selection of water and some randomly selected household chemicals. But she had this murder all figured out day by day, hour by hour and WHY Anthony did it, so on and so forth.
I blame Nancy Grace.
