Were the Packers exposed tho? People never talk about the fact that Rodgers hasn't beaten a good team on the road since December 2012. If they can secure field advantage in the NFC they'll be fine. They play Carolina in GB so that should be a win. I really don't see a team in the NFC that can beat them at home in the playoffs.

Eddie Lacy is killing that squad. Cobb is banged up and their tight ends are garbage. Yet I still have pack over panthers 9 out of 10 times.

I dunno man, looking at their schedule it seems hard to believe they'll only win 3 more games when they've got Ten, Was, Atl twice (the Falcons are frauds at 6-2), and TB left on their schedule. Plus winnable games against NO and the Giants. I'm not saying I'm buying into them but their defense has been pretty stout too this season generally speaking. I could easily see them getting between 11-13 wins and a bye.

Here's to hoping Cam stays healthy, I always liked him. I also cringe when he takes off because I'm waiting for somebody to kneecap him.

Also yup Atlanta has started their inevitable slide to mediocrity as planned. Every goddamn year.

At least no one around town actually likes the Falcons as opposed to the Bulldogs, so no one is really disappointed when they start sucking. Every year these idiots whip themselves up into a frenzy that "this could be the year" and when it ends like all the rest they're legit surprised.

Stunned that Indy only went at Cam's knees a couple times last night. I understand he has to run more with Benjamin out but still, that shit is dangerous.

BTW Lions reporters are saying Megatron isn't at practice today.

Megatron to the Seahawks?
Megatron to the Dolphins?
Megatron to the Pats?
Megatron to the Cardinals?
Megatron to the Cowboys?
Megatron to the Colts?
Megatron to the Panthers?

This properly summarizes the last 10 minutes of talks at my office.

And to update PD

Lions GM Martin Mayhew, team president Tom Lewand, and WR Calvin Johnson not at today's practice

BTW don't buy "hot takes" that Megatron is finished/washed up due to his YPC/YAC being so low. The biggest problem is that he's playing in an offense that doesn't utilize his strengths, and his QB is bad. This offense revolves around short yardage throws - it's the NO/Brees offense. The problem is that Stafford is not nearly as good or accurate as Brees. Brees gets rid of the ball immediately, Stafford holds on to it because he sucks at reading defenses; yea our o-line is trash which makes Stafford's job harder, but we cannot excuse him for shitty play.

Most of Megatron's receptions this year have been hitches and out routes. Catch and fall down or go out of bounds, basically. Stafford has been unable to hit him in stride, and the OC hasn't really called many plays that would even do that. Granted Stafford has hit Megatron for a couple deep bombs this year but nothing consistent. The speed and power are still there, it's a matter of playcalling and inaccuracy.

If you pair him with Tom Brady he's put up Randy Moss 2007 numbers.

Kaep being benched for Blaine Gabbert

:dead

:rofl Alex Smith won

Put a less mobile qb behind the league's shittiest Oline and expect better results, brehs.

He'll have a better game first game out that Kaepernick did all year, book it. It's easier to block for a standard drop and pop QB over a mobile one.

Kaep didn't have a pocket over half the time and I don't expect one to be there for Gabbert either. At least with Gabbert, he'll throw the fucking ball instead of running more than Kaep has.

How for real are the Panthers? Can they win the NFC? You've gotta think they've got a shot against Green Bay after the Packers were exposed by the Broncos this weekend, right? Small shot? I dunno.

Well they almost lost to Andrew Luck who was literally trying to throw the game away most of the fourth quarter.

And they needed a massive brain fart from the Seahawks defense to win that game.

I dunno, I think the Panthers defense is one of the best in the league easily, but that offense is basically Cam Newton, Greg Olsen and a bunch of garbage. They really need at least one more reliable playmaker and unless Kelvin Benjamin starts guzzling Recovery Water I don't see it happening.

I mean they will win their division and at least one playoff game but I think it will take a lot for them to make the Super Bowl.

Carolina's remaining schedule, for posterity:

Green Bay
@Tennessee
Washington
@Dallas - Thursday night
@New Orleans
Atlanta
@New York
@Atlanta
Tampa

they're finishing with at least 10 wins, ceiling is the NFC Championship game imo; people (duly) give a lot of grief over their offense, but if their d comes up with one stop on those last 3 possessions in regulation the game's over. There were a handful of calls that were missed/could have gone either way -holding called back Cam's 1st down, reviewed incomplete pass and stoppage of clock on that phantom out of bounds reception in the red zone- but still. Luck drove the ball on them 4 straight times after looking Ryan Leaf-tier through the first 3 and a half quarters. Special teams also disconcerting: Gano's missed PAT obv but also some botched kick coverages, Carolina was losing the battle for field position through those last ~20 minutes.

It's a new day, Jimmy!

:rejoice :rejoice :rejoice

I figured Caldwell or Mayhew - and potentially both - would be gone by the end of the year. While I mainly focused on Caldwell firing Lombardi, it's worth noting he also fired two other guys (OL and RB coaches) who were Mayhew holdovers. Caldwell replaced them with his own guys, and that seemed to set up a Caldwell v Mayhew situation. IE ownership might keep one or the other at the end of the year. Well clearly Martha Ford chose Caldwell...for now.

There have been reports for weeks that Martha Ford has been taking over, throwing her weight around. I thought it was bullshit but wow, she really means business :lawd

Martha Ford

 :uguu :uguu :uguu

Now it's time for the second act. You HAVE to hire the right person. William Clay Ford famously told the NFL front offices to fuck off on multiple occasions when they tried to help him hire a FO; Ford was literally the first big advertiser the NFL had in the television era, and the league has wanted Detroit to succeed for decades. With Martha in charge I think she's going to accept the NFL's help in the search for a GM/president/etc. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Seattle should be the blueprint
. They were utter trash not long ago. Strong front office hiring and drafting has completely turned them around.

Exactly. Same dudes who have spent the last few years drafting high character guys way above where they'd go normally. Our third round pick this year was a 20yo Stanford CB who hasn't sniffed the field. Why? Because he's a good guy and his dad played in the league.

You'll have it before halftime.

I fucked up so bad. I assumed Watkins wasn't 100% healthy and thus started Wallace. I need to just drop Wallace, he has literally had ONE good game for me. I even drafted him on my Draft Kings squad a couple weeks ago and he didn't do shit. I'm done with him.

My downfall is always assuming players who were great 1-3 seasons ago will be still be good. A few years ago Wallace did amazing on my team. Now...

man....

The last time the Lions beat the Packers in Green Bay...I was four years old. I'm happy about the win. Went in expecting a loss and lord knows we gave GB every chance to win it. Look, this is still a bad team but I saw a couple things I liked. The young CBs played well, despite our d-line not getting any pressure on Rodgers. Lawson was thrown at all day yet won his matchups. And Darius Slay shut down James Jones.

Still think this offense is trash, and did not like the playcalling on many occasions. But a win is a win. That being said I hope we don't get too many more. Our current interim GM has been with the Lions for 18 years. He signed the guy who made the game winning play today, and he's also talking with the media and being quite likable. I'm sure he's a good dude but I do NOT want us finishing the season strong. Anything that could help him being promoted to full time GM...no fucking thanks. Same with Caldwell, I want him gone at the end of the year.

I want Bosa or Tunsil in the draft. Last thing I want is us winning too many games and falling out of the top 5 drafting order...

If Palmer stays healthy the Cards could go to the SB. That being said I kinda think Carolina is better, and could have home field advantage in the NFC north.

Packers...dunno. Lots of talk about bad playcalling but tbh Rodgers was missing receivers, and receivers were dropping the best balls he threw. That's not on the OC. I'm sure they'll recover but ultimately GB is a team that needs home field advantage. They don't really beat good teams on the road so if they have to go to Minnesota or Arizona or Carolina they're fucked.

Still think Seattle can take the wildcard and pop someone in the first round...

I just don't see us getting a Wild Card. Only one team in the NFC West is making the playoffs this year.

Arizona looks good, but my take is that Carolina is flat out better. They're really impressive.

Your team had a good run. As a niner fan, I know what it's like to see the window slammed shut. All aboard the Blaine Train™ because the niners will win out and grab that WC.

Raiders will blow the Lions out the water on Sunday  :doge

We barely scored 18 points against an injured GB defense. Don't see how we stop Cooper and Crabtree. GB and their small ass receivers are one thing....

Crabtree has to be so happy not to have to catch balls at his feet anymore.

not like this tho :tocry

I'd rather him go out like he came in: choking away playoff games with an INT at the wrong time. That's surely better for a legend than him looking like some random scrub out there. I could go 5-20 in an NFL game right now and throw 4 INTs too.

This is the best way. I've always hated ol' Fetushead. He's gonna have to live with the fact that his brother has more rings than he does.
