The Lions destroyed yet another GOAT's body and spirit to the point where he retires early. :'(

Hi fella.

Here is the other Lion that retired early

Barry Sanders

Could you perhaps think this is his strategy? Maybe?

I mean go ahead and educate me.

Yea first Barry, now potentially Calvin. Both at the age of 30. At least Calvin isn't gonna be a dick and retire right before training camp like Barry did lol.

I hope he asks to be cut and signs elsewhere. The reports say this is about health and not winning/losing but surely he'd be better off with the Patriots or Carolina next season, if he wants to play. Brady isn't going to get him killed with inaccurate passes over the middle.

On the bright side: the Lions have some good cap space. Hopefully we don't fuck this up. If Megatron leaves we'll have to find another WR, thus ruining my hope for a defense free agency focus. Alshon Jeffries would make sense in terms of "replacing" Megatron. If Megatron stays I hope we focus on finding a good DT. Ziggy Ansah was a beast this year at DE despite our defensive tackles not getting much penetration...imagine how insane he'd ball out if our DTs could bust the pocket...

None of the local reports are really saying that. With Barry yea, it was clear he was unhappy with the direction of the team in terms of contracts/focus. So far it sounds like Calvin's issue is mainly health related. He's getting married soon and is tired of getting destroyed on Sundays, physically.

Honestly I wish it was about leaving Detroit. He trusted the organization to turn it around and signed a long term contract. Immediately afterward the team had two losing seasons. Made it back to the playoffs in 2014, then sucked this year. Now there's talk of a rebuild. He has to be tired of this shit. I hope he asks to be cut and goes elsewhere. He could easily dominate for 2-3 years with the Patriots.

Lions have a new GM: Bob Quin, the former director of pro scouting for the Patriots. I like it. While the Pats haven't drafted great recently they have found late round gems, and their handling of free agents has been top tier. This is the first time the Detroit Lions have hired a GM from an outside organization...which shows you how shitty and insular we've been for decades.

My only problem is that there are now rumors Quin wants to fire Caldwell and bring in Josh McDaniels as coach  :beli

I'm fine with Caldwell getting fired. That idiotic "we weren't expecting a hail mary" fuck up against Green Bay is enough to fire him for. Not to mention the nonstop game management mistakes and conservative decisions. But Josh McDaniels is not an upgrade. He was a shitty coach in Denver and was a shitty OC in St Louis. Anyone can be a good OC with the Patriots/Brady.

I've never encountered a game where the losing team deserved to both win AND lose a game.

Bengals outplayed the Steelers D in the second half, but Bengals D ruined it for them.  Burrfict deserves to be banned for several games for the shit he pulled.

Shazier also deserves a one game suspension.

Heard some ppl call Seattle lucky. Yea Minnesota missed an easy FG...but Seattle's defense really clawed them back into the game. And while the offense wasn't great Wilson made multiple great plays that saved the day.

Dudes I gotta share this.

I heard some from one of the boys still playing today.

Apparently Odell beckham sent Josh Norman pics of his girl or side piece from a random number. When they was in the tunnels apparently ODB shouted to Norman "you get them pics dude?"

This lead to all the fuckery.

Norman set himself up for that shit with his mouth. These wideouts in the league is like a secret fraternity and they will damn sure gang up on your ass if you cross 'em. Always been like this that so long as I remember.

Have pick plays/rub routes always been this common?  I see them all the time now, and I'm not sure if it's cause of a recent trend or if I've just become more aware of them from various analysts pointing them out.

Always been around (watch the oilers with moon) but due to the modern QB coming out of college only knowing quick reads it allows receivers to get open quickly.

Plus the rules changes have really changed how we defended those plays back in the day (put the lead guy on his back)

Well that and they got big and fast. When a 6'3 220 pound dude gets in your way, he gets in your way.

Couple questions. The Lions decided to keep Jim Caldwell as coach today. Players seem to love him almost universally and celebrated the news, whereas local media and some fans aren't happy. What are some of the things that result in a coach being loved or hated by the locker room, things that fans may not think of.

Second q...how much prep went into studying an opposing offense during a week. I'd imagine it would feel amazing to study something all week and then execute perfectly in game. I'm thinking of that Wilson INT in the Super Bowl where Butler knew the slant play was coming.

Cant speak on #1. You know better.

#2 Is tricky. You get out of life what you put into it. So I imagine it's a lot like your job in that regard. Some peeps put in 22 hours a week while others hit 50. Pats hit 50....all of them. When your company loses in business it's because you were out worked. Same here. That Pat buy in is amazing which is why they win....even randy put in that work.  Also there is not a perfect down much less a perfect game.

Butler had no idea that flick was coming. He did his job and reacted correctly. Watch again he wasn't looking at the ball he was shading TB and slammed at the right time.

Amazing reaction by a well studied player.

Edit: TB means the ball not Tom Brady. My bad.

100%

Probably won't happen before 2025 though

My guess is new team(s) and not a relocation. Preference would be to have at least 2 teams to normalize road trips for traveling teams. Either Bye/Game/Game or Game/Game/Bye. My gut tells me it will be London and Berlin.

Jacksonville probably end up relocating nationally. Don't be surprised if it's San Antonio.
