To be fair, the screwdsNintendo uses for their machines require unique screwdrivers. When I dropped my ds life way back when and heard a dangling noise, we tried everything in our power to open it up with a Phillips. We had order a special phillips capable of opening that specific screw just to open the ds up.

Considering Nintendo didn't include an af adaptor, who wants to bet they didn't give the screw a regular screw either?

More than that, requiring a screw for a port that is advertised as customizable for a kids toy machine is fucking stupid, and the fact you guys are defending Nintendo's hilarious negligence because LOL PHILLIPS HEAD is pretty dumb dumb.

It's just a precision philips screwdriver. I don't know anybody who DOESN'T have one.

Edit: To be fair I don't know anybody with kids who doesn't have one. Kids toys have been using a precision philips sized screw for about 5 years.

We went through dudes toolbox. He opens up computers and fixes em for a living and he didn't have a precision Phillips. We had to order one online. It wasn't at Home Depot or anything iirc. This was 5 years ago.

I watched that video, and requiring your users to do all that to change out a micro sd is complete banal.

And the 3ds does not have a "common" af adaptor. Are you for real? No wonder you're conservative.

Defend stupid corporations, brehs.

I cannot think of a single machine, from cameras, to even the 3ds or psp, that requires you to literally OPEN UP YOUR MACHINE to switch out an sd card. The very thought is laughable.

I can concur with this. Makes literally no fucking sense.

I also wonder how many people will damage it by doing said install. It just seems very silly to have people with literally no experience working on devices to take this thing apart.

Edit: Knowing nintendo they probably used a cheap ass screw too which will probably strip.

Nope. But to be fair they are way more handheld multi-generational gamers in japan I think. That culture loves them some gaming on the go.

I can't speak to how unique the screw is on the New 3DS, and I agree that the micro-SD port not being readily accessible is rather silly, but I will note that needing screwdrivers for kids' toys is rather common. Just last night I needed a Phillips head to switch out the AA battery that powers my son's motorized Percy train (character from Thomas and Friends for those fortunate enough to not know who that is). It's a kid's toy and switching out the battery is absolutely something that is going to have to be done semi-regularly if it's used at all.

You're a parent, though. When I said kids toy, I wasn't being literal. 3ds is used by people of all ages. When I tried to open my ds it sure as hell didn't support a regular Phillips. It seems this one doesn't either. It's not exactly a tool non-parents really use.

It's just a #00 Phillips. I'm surprised more people don't have a set of precision screwdrivers around the house. I had sets long before the kid arrived, and they've come in handy plenty.

Batteries in kids toys now need to be covered with a lid that is screwed in place, at least in the US. Safety regulations so the kids don't get to the batteries and potentially hurt themselves (ie. battery acid, ingest them, etc.).

My daughter's Glow Worm eats batteries like crazy so I'm constantly swapping out rechargeable batteries for the damn thing.

I'm also a homeowner and do my own maintenance. I've got lots of tools in the garage.

Most people instantly recognize (and bow down to) Kraftwerks.

But not 71-year-old legendary Neogaf moderator Steve Youngblood, according to a Wednesday report from UsWeekly.

...

'Kraftwerks tried to bro down with him,' said the source. But Steve was 'unimpressed.'

The moderator genius then said, 'Let's get one thing straight. You're a wannabe.

You're defending Nintendo because you don't think it's absurd that requiring a piece of electronics to be opened up manually with a screw driver to change an sd card to begin with, and instead lash out against people who don't have precision phillips screwdrivers because they're not parents.

Tell me any other piece of tech that requires being opened up with a screwdriver to switch out an sd card.
