German folks I've interacted with, professionally, privately and across the entirety of the country have bent over backwards to be non-isolationist and non-judgmental. They have a deep, ingrained embarrassment over that sort of behavior guiding the country's history, so if anything, they overcorrect,
Now, that's not to say they don't, generally, shut down if you don't make a bare minimum effort at the language or customs, or that there aren't fringe elements of "fuck the EU" but that's like judging the entirety of America on the WBC. It's not a real representation.
Now...the "Germans don't have a sense of humor" thing....that's sort of true. They don't do the "shoot the shit" type of thing much, especially in professional settings, until the work stuff is put to bed.
