Honestly, this is one that I'm not sure of. I don't think a simple "hello" in and of itself constitutes harassment, but I can see the argument for it. Yes, it could be considered being polite, but -- and I can't speak for everyone else -- my polite "hello" and "good morning" salutations are generally reserved for situations where clear eye contact is made. I'm certainly not going to say hello to someone walking at a brisk pace that is completely minding their own business. But if we're walking relatively slowly past each other and eye contact is made? Yeah, sure. I'll say hello.

I'm not gonna say the worst can't happen to a person but living in VA my entire life and being accustomed to "southern hospitality", I have to be a bit skeptical of these situations.

No matter where you go, you'll always have at least one person saying "hey," "how's it going?," "whats up man," "good morning," etc. So if that's all it is, I have to say you're overreacting a bit. Now if it goes further than that, then you have a case.

I've seen guys react very ugly after being rejected like that. I don't get it, but I benefit from it. So many dudes are straight up distinguished mentally-challenged when it comes to women that showing even the most basic competence can earn you brownie points. And by brownie points I mean a woman thinking "well this guy isn't distinguished mentally-challenged."

Case in point: I work with 5 guys who act like their only experience with women is from television. As in

In my experience talking to FEMALES like you'd talk to any other human being - ie professionally and/or jovially depending on the situation, being regular, etc - works. Whenever I see dudes trying to impress women they fail. Just be your fucking self and recognize women get interrupted all the time by stupid shit. Avoid being on that list of dumbasses and you'll do fine.

I think the one that suggests taking Amtrak is the best one after that one.

100 mile round trip on a scooter in the winter is a much better idea than driving that car into the ground.
