It doesn't, the 2012 schadenfreude was less from the GOP losing than the whole Unskewed Polls, Benghazi, etc. aspect. 2008 didn't have that too much because Republicans pretty much knew they were doomed after September.
This year had a similar aspect to 2012 where polls were being unskewed, the "trends" were all coming up Blue, everybody and his brother had some kind of model that divined the true animal spirits of the election, etc. And instead it was a bloodbath. (That a few people who weren't emotionally invested could see coming...)
