Unfortunately Vegeta never really had a chance of winning since Goku could have went SS3 at anytime during it, but man was it a right.

To be fair to Goku, he had better training and battle strategies than Vegeta. The SS-all-the-time concept was more sound than the "let's bulk up until we're slow as shit" method Vegeta and Trunks went for to fight Cell.

This was added later, and we know Toriyama was literally making it up as he went, so I like to believe that when that fight was originally written, it was supposed to mean something. Its significance was just retconned out later.

Nah. Toriyama flies by the seat of his pants but not to that extent. There's a reason Vegeta had to pull a cheap shot for the fight to end before Goku could pull it out.

Heh. I didn't ban pj but that's always going to lead to a ban.
