video games need an award show for legitimacy as an art.  Every other art has a bloated, questionable awards show that none of the actual artists even like or respect, so video games should too.  Developers probably love having arbitrary dates that take them off their work schedule, especially when you force them to throw together a trailer for it.

Eh, the game has been out long enough for people to tell if it was DA2-level hot garbage. We've even got Borians in the thread for it saying it's good. Alternatively, it speaks to how ho-hum the year's been when it comes to great games that a title that's been out for less than a month swept ones that came out earlier in the year.

Personally I was hoping Hearthstone would win GOTY just to see people's reaction to it.

Dragon Age is actually pretty dope. One of the few games I don't regret paying full price for this year.

TBH, I think anything that comes out the week of Halloween until Jan is "#TOOSOON" territory for GotY awards for me. Unless a lot of the "Game of the Year" cycle moves past December into March like Movie awards (IIRC? Oscars and the like are in March or May?) to where it gives people 1-2 months to stew on titles, anything in that period is a little too soon to consider for the December "Video Game sweeps" period, to me. But I never took stock in the VGA/VXA/whatever Knightly is calling it.
