I have an old friend who went through his 20's drunk as fuck and barely holding on to his job despite having well above what was considered the required skills. He got busted driving drunk twice in a two day period 15 years ago and has never drank again. And by drinking I mean the dude started when he got up and drank until he passed out.

He got over it without pills. psych evals, etc.
