It's definitely related to the Avengers / GotG explosion of popularity imo. I'm mostly indifferent towards the actual marvel products, I just wish their fans would shut the fuck up for a moment.

theyve been bringing their brand of stupid to actual comic discussions as well. its the bleeding of it all that irritates me. you dont read the comics, and thats fine. but acting like you do makes me want to start telling people to shut the fuck up

I don't know... I mean I got hooked on a lot of the Marvel characters thanks to the MCU films, and now I read Marvel comics pretty regularly.

MCU is the most generic shit around. GOTG was ok but nothing special. Winter Soldier was dope until the last act. That being said it's still Babbe's First Spy Thriller.

I'll admit. Robert Downey Junior is why I started to read the Ironman comics. I totally ignored that "lame" character in Marvel vs Capcom 2 (and War Machine as well) but RDJ's charisma got me to take a look at the character. Extremis being the "origin" story for the movies (mostly IM3) also kinda helped when I went back and was like "ah they took elements of that for Ironman 3."

That said, looking at the Guardian of the Galaxy comics, it doesn't feel like the movies. Whereas for X-men and Ironman: I can kinda see elements of the movies/comics merging together.

Still don't really give Captain America or Thor the time of day. I still haven't seen their two respective films. Only the Avengers. I'd totally put my ass in a seat for Black Widow, meanwhile. But I like strong female characters that don't need no man.
