Packaging and game footage was done in snippets and usually pre-selected by the company itself. It's not even comparable.
Leonard Maltin can't show you Furious 7 in long form and talk over it the entire time.
that would be the entire value of a movie delivered via a "review"
A game's value isn't in watching it...it's playing it. You can't get that experience from watching, period. *insert The Order joke here*
I realize some people watch more than they play or feel satiated from watching a Lets Play, but should everyone be screwed because of that? People read movie and book reviews for shit they'll never buy. Or they hear the ending or plot and don't feel a need to watch. That doesn't equate to lost revenue. They were never going to pay in the first place unless they went in blind. and there are long form reviews for books and movies too, which break down every last aspect in detail...nobody is punished for those existing. They are for people who already experienced it and want to see another opinion, or those who want a deep review before buying. They're not to replace the experience.
also, game sites do upload full playthroughs. You can go watch Giant Bomb guys suck at games and bro it up any time. Game Informer does them too.
Also, it's not about being jealous. It's just applying the law equally to all people and trying to be consistent as possible.
what law?
