(Also while I'm ranting before bed: This is the exact thing [besides shitty moderation</sorry Steve>] that is really making me tired of GAF: If you try to form friendships and rapport with people of similar thought processes to discuss things, 'Lore doesn't want you there. He wants Hypetrain.gif [heh, before Y2Kev got annoyed with that and stomped that out] for whatever unreleased title for DEM CLICK MONEY instead of growing the board's community and having more click/page views.
We all hate Hypetrain.gif
So did I after a bit. But that's what 'Lore wants: Mindless "OMG HYPE!

" posters instead of actual discussion on features/etc. This has been a long going problem because 1) he wants to split megathreads (understandable given the board software hasn't been updated in ages/board software can't take that amount of posting from Demon's Souls) which 2) actually would discuss the thing in an "insular blanket" of people that were actually interested in the thing.
I can count on both hands how many times a piece of news if posted about a title that is in community on gaming-side that devolves into shitting on the game and/or "LOL IS IT FIXED/NERFED/etc" now instead of actual discussion on the game's expansion pack/patch/whatever. Whereas the community would discuss it in the megathread of old, generally.
The biggest problem with HaloGAF is they didn't want to talk about the game in the shitfest that is OT Gaming because it was full of people all too happy that Halo turned into every other generic fps all the while claiming their taste in games is impeccable.

Sounds more like a problem for the old guard than the newer posters. I can see where 'Lore gets the idea of community thread posters being "insular," instead of either 1) ignoring those "shitposters that are happy the game turned into a generic FPS" or 2) engaging them and going "I disagree."
"But we don't want to do that 24/7." I understand, you don't need to. That's where #1 comes in. Don't engage those people and just discuss the current event/whatever with the 2-3 posters you know and if the "shitposter" makes a good point or whatever INCLUDE them in your on-going discussion instead of bickering about whatever 24/7 with them. *shrug*
I don't know how to say it, because on one hand I can see 'Lore's problem while not 100% agreeing with it and on the other I can see your problem but only 20% or so agree with it.
Also the bold feeds into:
Not that it really matters since most developers have abandoned or even shun GAF now. Why try to discuss something when half the board will jump on you and 'Lore will support that?)
*Developer comes on and trys to explain why they went the way they did*
Majority of GAF: LOL IT'S DIFFERENT FROM BEFORE SO THEREFORE IT SUCKS *wails and gnashing of teeth*
(Not that HaloGAF/you don't have a point with Halo 4-5's change in FPS "tone" from 1-3, but there could be at least a bit of middle ground discussion instead of outright attacks like some people have done on F-ie and 343)
And I'm not saying those "attacks" aren't valid. There's a time for ribbing (not very harshly/burning scalding hot) but I think 343/et. al. know they fucked up (like with the MCC, that is EXTREMELY botched and 343 knows it) and don't need 20+ posts jumping on their logic or trying to clarify with "YEAH BUT IT SUCKS THO LOLZ"x100.
