Relationships can be funny like that, although it generally means you have to mellow a bit on the polarizing issue.
As usual with those, you only get one angle on the story.

Deists acknowledge the existence of god(s), there is little room for the ambiguity morm was looking for. The next closest thing would be something like Epicureanism (if there are gods, your time is better spent striving to be godlike than worshiping it/them), though the doubt I attribute to them stems more from the fact that their cosmology was materialist in character which conflicts with the present Western conception of the divine than any agnosticism on their part. (AFAIK they never believed deities' existence was ambiguous.)

what philosophy would it be if you acknowledged that there were multiple gods, but they were all female and frequently took the form of young girls to seduce highly intellectual men

whats the one where you feel that there may or may not be gods, but you realize that your pathetic, disgusting mockery of an existence is too insignificant to be of any interest to them so it really doesn't matter.

What do you call an atheist who still values (some) religions and philosophical teachings? I guess a problem I've got with many western atheists is that, when they think the word "religion" they think Abrahamic. It feels very reductionist to me, but I won't go there.

I really want to use this as an opportunity to get to know her well and to hopefully grow a strong relationship with her. It's cliche, but I'm the black sheep in the family, but I think of all my near relatives she's the most likely to 'get' me and how I think and maybe I can be more honest about who I am with her.

Still... I wouldn't mind advice here. I think I'm going to get her to talk to one of my close friends, who's a sexual health nurse, just to cover all my basis. I don't know what sort of relationship she has with sex, or with my older sister/mother when it comes to talking about sex, but... well I'm not dumb, she's 16 and she's a pretty girl, so this is a potential opportunity for disaster if we don't act smart I feel. How to even broach this topic with her though, is going to be hard for me.

A Marxist. :jawalrus

Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo.

Ah right, they most certainly wouldn't want to make a female fronted superhero movie unless they absolutely HAD to. ::) That shit with replacing a lady for the toy version of some Avengers scene springs to mind.

Atheism is shit tier logic to me given one cannot prove there is no god. My general view...is there a god or all powerful deity? Maybe, maybe not, I have no fucking idea; there's no evidence either way. But if there is a god I'm going to assume it didn't reveal itself to a bunch of bumblefuckers in the middle east a few thousand years ago. Or any other humans for that matter.

you got the logic completely backwards. the burden of proof is on people claiming there is a god, not the other way around.

it's an old analogy but it's the best one. if i walked up to you and said "there's a golden teacup floating in space" would you believe me? i offer no proof other than saying it's there. why would you believe me? without any substantial proof to back up my claim the assumption is that it's not true. same thing for god. it can't be proven therefore it's disregarded until proof can be provided.

A lot of assumptions on atheism and atheists on this page that are total head scratchers.

For example, this shows that PD doesn't even know what atheism even MEANS:

Atheism is shit tier logic to me given one cannot prove there is no god.

Don't assume that all atheists are strong atheists. Don't try to take atheism and agnosticism separately either, it shows you're a dumb dumb. So Dufus' username is pretty apt. :obama

For example, I'm an agnostic atheist. I don't know what's out there. But I don't believe in it either. That doesn't mean I am making the claim there is no God, either. It's just a personal opinion. There's a large difference between the statements "i don't believe in god" and "there is no god". Learning the difference is important if you want to be taken seriously.

Agnostics are the hipsters of Philosophy. :aah
