I don't see NV frankly being any different than 3 in literally any regard other than having a more competent storyline. Shit was 1:1 copy paste job mechanically as far as I'm concerned with better writing.

I agree with people overrating them on forums. The majority of games seem overrated though depending on where you're at on the internet.

Tons of small things were added that made the game more enjoyable for me. Iron sights, weapon modification (or a ton more parts for modification), Hardcore mode, overall weapon variety and the amount of weapons, reputation mechanic, disguise mechanic.

None of that sticks more vividly in my mind than the story in NV though.

When I think Fallout of that generation...
I recall shit like Three Dog, the California Wasteland and Ceaser shit if I'm being super fucking broad.

If I'm trying to recall F3 specifically. The only thing that pops into my mind is being pissed that I died at the end, maybe the dad, but I can't even recall a specific character from F3.

Everything written in F3 is just wack af.
I'm not gonna shit on Beth 100% though, long time fan of Fallout and the fact that it came back at all is a blesing in and of itself. Frankly after the abysmal PS2 one I figured the nail was in the coffin at the bottom of the sea. Anything was better than that.

Eastern European devs brehs.
What is it about them that makes their games so magical.

Those Metro 2033 dudes made the fucking game literally locked in a fucking shack too and shit.

It gets worse. According to Rubin, the team "sat on folding wedding chairs, literally elbow to elbow at card tables in what looks more like a packed grade school cafeteria than a development studio." Dev kits and high-end PCs had to be smuggled into Ukraine in backpacks to avoid the sticky hands of "thieving customs officials." Pile on frequent power outages and broken government-run heating which frequently led to below-freezing working conditions, and Rubin says that 4A's success is equivalent to that of the Jamaican bobsledding team which finished ahead of the US in the 1994 Olympics.

I think the point is that you're a bad pet owner if you just let your pet run around other people's property. Dogs, mice, birds, turtles, fish... we don't tolerate any of these types of pet roaming unsupervised so why should fucking cats of all things get a pass?
Ah, yes. I remember that one time when someone's pet fish was running around in my backyard! Unforgivable!

(For real though, what a piece of shit)

It's hilarious because you can find a non-harmful way instantly if you go on google. if you want to keep cats out of your garden, put some citrus peel under bushes and in hiding spots. Cats hate the taste and smell of citrus fruits so they will simply avoid your garden to go dump in. EZ as fuck. Had the same with the neighbours cats, though they are so domesticated as they are only let outdoors in the evening they will come up to the door when I'm in the kitchen and won't sod off till I leave or if I'm heading outside, wont go till they get a scratch and some attention.

I truly feel we are at a crossroads where these games are large for the sake of being large, and you can do "everything" for the sake of doing "everything" despite the fact that you are railroaded into picking a side between Stormcloak and Empire and little, if any room in between. So while they say you can do anything, you really can't do shit. Meanwhile, in a game like New Vegas you can put on a NCR outfit, go on a Legion murder fest, and get the NCR blamed for it, or be a double agent to both sides and kill Caesar. You cannot kill Ulfiric. Ultimately, the games are pretty vapid in their role playing and ultimately forgettable. What's the point of offering everything if you can't actually affect anything? I agree with your Bioshock and DXHR assessment too.

I get why they do that, they probably dreamed of making worlds that are able to look and feel alive 20-30 years ago but they didn't have the tech/resources to do it. Then good vs bad becomes the obvious choice as far as being able to influence the world but from a storytelling perspective, it isn't that intriguing. I generally like the story in Assassins Creed or GTA games which are really linear but gives you something new as far as the culture/period they focus on.

If a game has choices, then I want them to be decisions I'll be uncertain of until the last second. Not obvious things that fit my moral code or don't, because then why would I want to feel invested or any reason to replay it?

It's a coherent theme in Fallout 3. The villains are the remnant of a remnant who won't embrace change. The heroes are people who broke with the staid dogma of the Brotherhood of Steel. Many of the societies you visit (Megaton, Rivet, Tenpenny) aren't anything more than returning to the shell of the old world. They aren't even something like pre-Nu Vegas' New California Republic. Powerlessness and stunted development are everywhere, that's why you aren't tasked with saving the world, only taking it off life support or providing a basic building block of society and letting things evolve from there.

Yeah actually you're right, I could barely remember the story to be honest.

I don't see NV frankly being any different than 3 in literally any regard other than having a more competent storyline. Shit was 1:1 copy paste job mechanically as far as I'm concerned with better writing.

Disagree, I never felt I could role play in 3 and when I replayed it (when I really judge a wrpg based on past experience and playthrough) and it was the same experience. It was constricted, felt like nothing new. The options were goodie two shoes and illogical evil psychopath. When I replayed NV, I did things totally different in a completely different manner without it coming off as cheesy and could role play it and craft a story behind my character and stick to that. I can't do that in 3, you're the kid of a scienctist dude in the vault who is trying to save the wastes. Why would you blow up megaton if that's the case? And it's not like you can change your destiny with your father either. New Vegas, despite giving you a backstory  later in the game allows you from the beginning to curate a personality and play style. 3's choices are completely limited by comparison. I think a lot of people like to play those games and go boom boom everywhere they go. I tend to play science and communication characters and sometimes low intelligence characters. Despite that, my options in 3 were always limited. In NV, they expanded triple. In Fallout I have always liked to play slime ball characters who mostly do the right thing within their own compass. Who try to survive no matter what without becoming insane or a door mat. A pragmatist with a good heart who survives no matter the costs. The person you could trust, but shouldn't really trust, but not fully neutral either.

I can do that in NV. I cannot do that in 3

Further, 3 has no factions of anything like it. They have factions but they're mostly just random dudes that shoot at you. Despite having a bad rep with the Powder Gangers for instance, I could still infiltrate their ranks and be the scoundrel I like to play.

In NV, when you wake up, the only thing you know is you're a courier. In 3, you've got a family and a friend and all this shit that makes it hard to play my style.

If you think 3 and NV are the same I'm not sure you really explored NV at all.

That said, the thing about wrpgs is often you don't know how good the game actually is until you replay it.

Viewpoints on the story can be valid or invalid, but every person that shits on the gameplay in a MGS game usually sucks at the game. I've never seen or heard someone proficient at stealth games and MGS games criticize the gameplay harshly (MGS1 onto MGS3).

Just look at the bore emoticons and their names. It's pretty much :comeon :gurl

Used to have two outdoor cats. One we managed to make an indoor cat, the other we really couldn't, he'd spray out of frustration. Cat was the neighborhood vole problem solver though. Much better than putting poison everywhere. Backyard looked like d-day sometimes but whatever, got the hose and washed it off. There's tons of cats here as well as other wildlife. A lot of the stuff I see attributed to cats is just as much raccoons. Least cats bury their shit, raccoons will basically make a latrine in your yard somewhere.

To be fair: Unspayed wild cats are a problem across the world and I have no problem with attempting to "control" them/decrease the population for better ecology and ecosystem balance. That said, I don't think I'd prefer people to drown or outright murder the cats. But there does need to be something done in regards to curbing reproduction.

Wut ?
There's plenty of indoor cats in the cities of "Western Europe", because it is not especially safe to let them roam in an urban environment or even practical if you live in a building, even though I agree that strictly indoor life is not the best for most cats. As a cat owner myself I'm a bit astonished by how many signs for lost cats I see in my neighborhood and I think it is a bit unresponsible of the owners to let them roam : It's a quiet part of town, but it's still a street with some traffic and all.

Also : Yeah barbaric Americans don't know about outdoors  :lol

2's gifting being cranked up to 11 in terms of the girls trashing suits turned me off. I think the PSP port fixed that, but it didn't have the Jetski or the water slide from hell. If I remember right the PSP port's physics were also kinda wonky in regards to the volleyball. It didn't have that digital inputs of ABXY like the original X-box did where you could use the two-button analog or four button digital (better IMO) strong/weak pass/spike system.
