I broke my fake tooth so I am cosplaying as a meth addict for thanksgiving

also, I went out for coffee this morning, so first I had to find a place that was open (in Bellevue lol) then when I finally did I discovered I'd left my card at home so had to walk back 12 blocks to retrieve it and then back-back another 12 blocks to get the coffee aaagh

Funeral was yesterday. He was a great man that lived through the great depression and stormed Omaha Beach. It is sad to know there's one less hero in a world that has so few.
 :fbm

But  one thing was really nice. One of the pall bearers of this mormon patriarch who was a descendant of the original mormon pioneers who was ultra conservative and made his religion his life was the native american partner of his openly gay son.  Seeing him carry this great man alongside other men who were staunch republicans and mormons and seeing each of them reach out in support and love. Well, that gives me hope.

A few weeks ago my boss announced she was quitting at the end of the year.  She was lazy and incompetent so me and two of her other direct reports ran the department for her while she went out for Starbucks, fucked around on the internet all day, or just simply disappeared for hours a time with nobody knowing where she went.  I was delighted to hear that she recommended me to her boss (the VP) to take her place.  So naturally I applied.  I had two interviews and both seemed to go great.  Then I heard that some asshole from another department that isn't even tangentially related to mine wanted to make a lateral move into the position.  Overnight prospects went from great to shit.  Naturally I heard the bad news this week that they're going with this guy...who has absolutely no experience with the department.  He set up a meeting invitation late next week to talk about the department and he says he already has ideas.  Keep in mind he has no experience with engineering or operations whatsoever but already he has ideas.  I'm preparing for the worst.

Once I'm done with my MBA in the next few months, I think I'm ready to move on to another job.

Had to deal with transferring DirecTV account from my deceased stepdad to my mom's name.

DirecTV -- the website doesn't work properly. Anything having to deal with password changes is busted. Everything, everywhere, busted, for current IE and Chrome. Seriously, it has GOT TO BE intentional. Even "chat with representative" in the flow for forgotten passwords requires a login to the account.

I finally called customer service and managed to get through, but they wanted to speak with next-of-kin, so I passed the phone to my mom, who confirmed for them that I was dealing with this stuff for her, then she told the representative some stories about her travel to Turkey, where her husband passed, and the other nice stuff I've done for her, and then she hung up on the representative instead of handing me back the phone.

I started to have tunnel vision, and my ears were ringing, distantly.

I called them back and took care of the remaining business. If I ever have to deal with DirecTV again, it will be too soon.

Stopped at a Subway after picking up groceries yesterday.  Funny, since we bought a baguette to make sandwiches with.  There were two rather young people behind the counter.  One of them appeared to be on something, because the conversation basically went like this for both us:

Clerk: What kind of sandwich do you want?
My wife: Turkey.
Clerk: You want cheese?
My wife: Pepper jack.
:::The guy then proceeds to make a chicken sandwich:::
Me: Uh, she wanted a turkey sandwich with cheese.
Clerk: Oh my bad, I thought she said chicken.

Clerk: What do you want on your sandwich?
Me: Letuce and onions.
:::Puts lettuce on sandwich:::
Clerk: What else?
Me: ...
Me: Onions.
Clerk: Huh?
Me: Onions.
Clerk: Anything else?
Me: Salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, and oregano.
Clerk: Salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, and mayo.  Got it.
Me: No, NO MAYO.
Clerk: Oh, OK.  What did you want?
Me: Oregano.

At this point, the other clerk who has done nothing proceeds to cut the sandwiches and then rings us up.  Meanwhile, the other guy picks up a mayo bottle, unwraps both sandwiches, and proceeds to drench my wife's sandwich in mayo.  He literally emptied half the bottle out, then proceeded to do the same to mine, although I stopped him.  We then had to wait for him to remake my wife's sandwich and go through similar to the above all over again.

I'm MUCH more efficient working from home.
My typical day has more "stops" in it but I'm on way longer. Whereas when I'm onsite I gotta worry about getting onsite, traffic and meals. Though I will say with some clients if you're not visible they totally drag down in productivity so sometimes I go on site  more for them than for me (actually that's almost always the case).

But today I can just feel "the gears slipping". It's happening a lot more the older I get. I used to be able to be up and in 5 minutes be on a call at the top of my game and then work until 2am. Now I need ramp up time. I can still work that late if needed. But the ramping up time is new.

I went to Taco Bell and ordered a #10 Cheesy Crunch Gordita Combo w/Nacho Cheese Doritos Shell. I was going to order a Triple-Layer Nacho too, but I forgot when I was ordering, but I was thinking that when I went to pick up my order, I'd order some nachos too. But when I went to pick up my order, somehow it had morphed into a #5 Nacho Bell Grande + a Nacho Cheese Doritos Taco. I thought about taking it back, but I actually did want some nachos, just not the Nachos Bell Grande. But how do I go up there and be like "wtf, I didn't order nachos, but oh btw, can I get an order of nachos?" The #dualities of this situation where too much for me to handle, brehs.

I mean, I'm sure you're thinking that I could have just ordered a Cheesy Crunch Gordita extra, but the CCG is $2.50 and the Triple Layer Nachos are only $1. They'd be forcing me to spend an extra $1.50 to fix something that wasn't my mistake. And i would have had to spend $9, and anytime you spend $9 at Taco Bell while the Dollar Menu is existing seems like a serious :ufup moment. The situation was untenable, so in the end I just ate the nachos.  :larry

I have been dealing with my mom's computers all week. She has an ancient iMac that she wants to give to somebody else, so I used her initial install disks to restore it to factory settings. She has a brand-new iMac that I have set up with all kinds of shortcuts for her now.

My stepdad, deceased, had an older Windows XP machine, which I had planned to either overwrite with Linux, or physically disable the hard disk drive for privacy and identity theft concerns.

I have been using his new-ish Win8 machine all week. It has been a constant struggle, because  it does so many things differently than any previous version of Windows. But I wanted to get rid of my Steam and XBL account on it so that none of my information remained on this computer that I'd never see again. But for some reason it had conflated my account with the local account of my stepfather, so when I deleted my stuff, it deleted his stuff too.
:fbm
Is there anyway to recover an account in Windows 8?

Lol yeah that's peanuts compared to not just real movies but indies too. I can't really complain. I went as cheap as possible on everything. Audio recorder, boom pole, etc. Good thing is I'll reuse that stuff in the future.

Wanted to rent a 5D Mk. III but I just don't have that cash (would have been like $200 more.) So I have to stick with my T2i for now. The lens will be doing most of the work anyways (50mm f1.2), I just worry about how much of the picture it'll get since the T2i isn't full frame like the 5D is.

If it's 142 dollars to rent the lens, how much is it to buy one? wowsers
YMMV

$1549 according to Amazon. I mean, I could almost definitely find it a little cheaper if I looked, and f1.4 and f1.8 are exponentially cheaper (the latter is like $125 to buy lol), but I need dat hipster bokeh. Plus low light is much much better with the higher* f-stop.

*Flubbed this, 1.2 is actually higher than 1.8 since it's f/1.2, as in the aperture divided by 1.2. Always get that confused.
