the most common way shin splints go away are by running/walking more and building up your supporting leg muscles.

I feel like that's the case for me, since I would get huge cramps in my shins just from walking too far at first.  Then the point where the cramps/pain would crop up kept getting pushed further back.

I'm just getting some compression socks, ice packs, and working in some different stretches.

Just run through it, best advice I can give.

Signed up for another half-marathon in January. I think this will be my 10th. :rock

if I've learned anything from a day of reading and talking to people, it's that everyone has a different opinion on shin splints.   :lol

today was rough, but now that I think about it, my morning stretches/warm ups were shit, which probably contributed the most.

Trying to sell into a game company and the sales guy is trying to be all smarmy and was trying to explain how we deal with multiple buyer personas and he thought he was clever and was like

"So, you guys make games right? So a persona can be just like Mario. He wants to save the princess right?  But sometimes he just wants to get to the...uh...goal, you know the top of the tower to fight the turtle guy."

And the client was like  :oreilly

I had to interrupt him and be like "I think he's trying to make the point in videogame metaphors. A better one is the MC in Persona. They have the ability to call on a huge number of personas, each of which is very different. Your customers are like this when it comes to buying, differing circumstances, attitudes and situations change which 'persona' they'll use and we help you track that."

The client was like  :leon

After the meeting I told the sales guy to never try to make a videogame metaphor again  :comeon

Still, good to know all those hours in Persona wasn't for nothing.

My sleep is fucked.

Went to bed last night thinking "Oh, if I go to bed at 8 pm then I can wake up at around 5 am and get a bunch of stuff done in the morning."

Nope.
>Went to bed at 8 pm shot right into REM sleep
>Was dreaming about doing a bunch of web page layouts. So... I was essentially doing work in my sleep...
>Woke at 10:30 pm and was wide-the-fuck awake until 3:00 am
>Wake up at 8:00 am feeling like shit

I think staring at computer screens all day is really doing a number on me.

Agreed. Why he thought to start talking about Mario, even though they were a game company, was beyond me.  And they give me a hard time about client facing skills. I'm not the one starting terrible metaphors using Nintendo characters in sales calls.

So I'm trying to get drunk in the middle of the day, because why not? I had a few gin and tonics, but didn't have much gin left and quickly ran out.

I scanned my fridge. No other mixers but that tonic. The only liquor I had left was rum. I was like  :yeshrug

Let me tell you: a rum and tonic is some scust shit. I'm powering through it, because I just want to be drunk, but goddamn I would not wish this on anyone  :yuck

rum IS the devil's liquor of choice in case you didn't know. Especially spiced rum.

Might as well drink rum straight because at least when you're dying the next day it's not because of a sugar overdose.

The last time I saw Chinese people eat crab legs, they cracked them with their teeth, and they were fast as fuck. Maybe they were coaxing you to use the best crab crackers?

Isn't that kinda weird though.

I thought it was all just glass.

I would say it's mostly been to rapidly falling prices. DSLR's didn't even really start catching on until 2005 (they were around before that but extremely cost-prohibitive.) Now? I could get a good DSLR (which has way more functions and options than anything released in 2005) for like $500. The high end of DSLR gear currently consists of stuff that would have fetched a small fortune ten years ago for the same quality. A 2005 lens might be compatible, but even lenses have developed a fair bit. In addition there's other innovations, like in-body stabilization, and mirrorless cameras have started to catch on (I've read a couple "death of DSLR" articles.)

Like most tech, it's always "existed" but the higher end keeps dropping in price and size until it's attainable for most people. Did you know you can get a 4K DSLR for  $1500? This is something an indie film maker could easily use to make an entire feature film, and 4K (digital) films didn't even exist a decade ago! If you wanted to make a feature back then, you needed to use film and I shouldn't even need to say how incredibly expensive that could get. (Let's say, a lot more than $1500 for potentially not as high quality footage.)

Now it seems most stuff is being made in 6K digital with RED cameras and the like. In a whole 10 years, you'll probably be able to get a camera that offers the same picture quality but for $1500 instead of $20,000. (And the high end will have something even better to replace it, like 16K or something insane like that.)

Last night I dreamt that I watched an episode of Blossom with continuity errors. I dreamt being offended at this, BTW.

I got home yesterday to find a Prius parked in front of my driveway on the street. I managed to swerve around and park in my driveway, but it's still annoying. Parking cop was out doing his rounds and he ticketed the Prius.

Came out to the car this morning and the driver side rear tire is totally flat. Got it off and put the spare on. There is a cut in the side wall. Fuck.

Could be coincidental, but I can't think of any other reason how my tire got a puncture on the side like that without driving it.

I have no clue. I'd like to think they didn't.

This just sucks. My wife is in Boston this week for work and left our other car at the airport. Took a sick day so I'm home with the kiddo and heading to get a new tire soon.

For the record I was wearing my ring and discussing my wife as well.

Thank god for my driver. We were pulling in my gate and he noticed a car coming down our street (it's not a busy street in the least.) kinda fast and made sure to shut the gate. She was standing on the other side screaming "we need to talk" and after about 2 minutes of me trying to tell her to leave my wife comes out like fucking godzilla. "Who THE FUCK is this BITCH?"

I let her handle it from there.
