God comics are so ridiculous with this continuity shit how can someone parse any of this without losing their mind
It's the part I like honestly. Like uncovering a history as I discover new books within the universe. Like Doom Patrol or Gotham Central or Booster Gold or whatever that adds flesh to other books and events. Like finally getting a grasp around the "actual" events of Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis is fun. Especially when it's taking basically discarded stuff and reworking it to be like crazy important like Starman/JSA did with a number of things where it all comes together later.
I guess the best comparison is to people who are now coming into Star Trek, I watched all of it (except the TOS, but in reruns) as it was happening, and revisiting it is interesting. But there's something about discovering it and being able to take in the entire story after it's ended. But if TNG/DS9/VOY did more open setup (running alongside each other) where things in the universe affected things within each series.
Though I suppose that some of the better works are those that stick mainly to their own inner continuity like 100 Bullets, Fables, etc. Even the Batman books in a way are somewhat more like an unfolding drama that sections itself off from some of the more Powered folk.
