Got a new job. Been pretty far from full time at my work for the last years time (not even officially contracted for 1 ½ year, seeing as my position kind of vanished but they kept me around to do whatever was needed...), and although I love the place, went to an interview friday. Thought I absolutely fucked it, especially having to mention you are chronically sick never goes down well, and they seemed to hate me... but got the call this morning and I'm hired. Pays better and allows me to do 15 hour shifts, which will lead me to lots of days off.

Have a work event in Amsterdam next week, which required a nas to be connected to a few WiFi terminals to create a mesh network so they could print badges etc, after some messing around and thinking I got it to the point today of ten people being able to connect and use it at the same time pretty cool. I also have applied for a role within vidya games that is going super well and I could end up working there in the new year for decent pay and working for a studio I admire 2020 could be bloody great!

Best part of the event is if my system works well I’ll have a lot of time in Amsterdam to do whatever I want with and get paid for it with maybe one or two calls to deal with

Passed my critical care boards, which in the grand scheme doesn't change much but add unneeded letters the back of my name since my job will function as the same and it's just a scam to pay the organizations money to both take the test and then a yearly fee

but all the same feels nice

You guys are famous for being more outspoken, and speaking your mind, than other cultures. In Japan in particular, it stands out. I think a lack of passive aggressive bullshit is PRETTY FUCKING GREAT.

Multiple triumphs today!

Finally scheduled a replacement for carpet for my apartment (been here over 10 years so they gotta replace it, plus it looks like shit now).

And finally got this unsupported Unreal Engine thing that I've been trying to get working off and on for months to work.

My friends 2 yearold got his leg stuck in the base of a portable fan (that was off) while he was trying to fight his mom from changing his diaper.  Instead of helping, I made a joke about shit hitting the fan.

Staring at my old transcript in disbelief... even though I objectively failed the lab section of second semester general chemistry, my instructor couldn't bring herself to fail me and just changed my grade to what I got in the lecture section (a C). Can't believe I never noticed this before. I also feel a rather discomfiting combination of dirty and thankful.

In retrospect, a lot of people have really stuck their neck out for me and helped me out during my life even when I really didn't deserve it because they wanted me to succeed. I'm going to be more thankful for that from now on and live my life to some approximation of my potential and hopefully return the favor to other people in the future.
