Finally having access to journals again as a student  :vr

You should use scihub anyway. Rights management for journals is a nightmare and not something students should suffer from.

Like an hour ago I was getting really animated at a friend’s place talking and her cat hopped up on the table and nuzzled me and I just instantly melted and AWWWWWWWWed out loud. It looked like it was concerned about me. I’ll take what I can get.

Got my passport in the mail! Never had one before, but the girl I was dating wanted us to take a trip so I promised I would get one over the holidays. Made an appointment that I managed to keep despite being horribly depressed after the breakup, and now almost a month later I have a passport!

Also they took my birth certificate when I got the passport and told me I'd get it back... but it wasn't in the mail with the passport. Is that normal?

Happy birthday, breh.

I had to contact Comcast support because something was fucky on Saturday night. During the chat, the support dude informed me that they now offer gigabit internet in my hood, and due to the intricacies of the analities Comcast delivers, it was actually 10 bucks cheaper than my current plan, which they really must have been fucking me on. He also let me turn off my bandwidth cap for 15 bucks a month, so my bill is five bucks more, my internet is about 5 times faster, and that fucking limit is gone. The only downside is I’m married to Comcast for another year, even after I move. I guess the good part of it being Comcast is that they’ll at least be wherever I end up.

So yes my triumph was getting upsold on a support chat that didn’t end up helping my actual problem but JESUS the porno is flying so fast that the skin cells on my dick can’t keep up replenishing themselves.

Had lunch earlier in the day with a bunch of former cohorts in my teaching credential program, to give a sort of a wake for our professor who passed away a couple of weeks ago. Found out that bladder cancer that was likely because of pesticides spraying when he was a teenager working in the fields for summer cash. The legacy of Agent Orange lives on.

I don't know if it was a triumph other than my professor touched all of us deeply, and I miss him and wished I hung out with him more before he left us.

I kind of gave up on life after I lost my ability to walk 4 months ago after a botched foot operation. It's been a long and painful road to recovery. Yesterday I was finally able to break past a mile and walk several miles without blood blisters and major long lasting pain. Each day I try and walk a little more than the day before. In a few weeks I might be able to get back to my normal routine (6-9miles daily.)

Read this book bro... If you can get it used or cheaper..

Thanks.
I might start off by checking out a local public library. It is a pretty ethnic one and who knows what gems it could have tucked away in an extended foreign section. Or its e-library.

What is better than a book than lived experience, I decided to ask my grandparents about what the deal was.

Background: Both were roughly teenaged at the time of Partition. Resided in modern day Pakistan, were farmers who farmed land apparently allocated to them by government?
Have not visited South Asia in years, regularly consume news from that area, generally involves regularly learning about high profile crime and drugs incidents (relevant later).
Highlights, some bits were contradictory but they are elderly and memory not sharp so since I'm not interrogating them I didn't try and reconcile.

  • Didn't dislike the Brits
  • Liked the idea of self-determination
  • Disliked Gandhi (distrusted), like Bhagat
  • Liked the relative calm back then, said it was cool seeing people with nice clothes and jewelry walking around without fear.
  • Nostalgia for that since now they feel crime is a massive problem, likely exacerbated by their media consumption
  • Disdain for modern legal systems, they felt crime wasn't an issue back then because serious crime would result in communal lynches. And now think crime is rampant (media probably)
  • Lived in village communities of farmers, effectively making them peasant farmers I suppose
  • Aware of British atrocities of renown, likely unaware of most going-ons for obvious reasons

So a bit contradictory it seems, they have strong disdain for crime as well as Modi so that creates a sense of nostalgia for perceived better times.
Aware of British crimes, pro-Bhagat but also strands of nostalgia.
I'm guessing from where they were, whatever wealthy Brits were trotting about didn't cause them any grievance causing a positive view seemingly at odds with the rest. Really coming across as "simple folks" living away from wherever was bustling in every sense, so rich people were probably a novelty and poor information flow meant the local experience painted their entire view. And then contrasting it with the modern media they consume, they feel life has gotten worse and more barbaric.

Not an uncommon view among the older people in general, but as an aside I feel that is due to the immediate media bombardment you just didn't have during the "good old days".
