Played some more of this, still just barely learning the characters. Played it with some friends who are level 30 and 22(?) so got put into games with people who know what they're doing. Just tried to pick a class the game was saying we didn't have one of and do what I could.

This led to me getting to play medic more than I intended to. Just like TF2. :doge

I figured out Lucio, the ingame stuff gives an unclear impression of exactly what he does and I was playing him all wrong. I thought his area of effect had to be triggered, not that it was constant. I did wind up with my first Play of the Game though for blowing two dudes off the side of a map, turning around and killing two more dudes trying to capture the point. So that probably made me like him more.

"Pariah" was one of my more useful classes by getting in the air and just trying to flank and support.

Actually, I found that the class groupings are not necessarily the best description of some of the characters. Like mentioned above Symmetra is only really useful defensively. And Sombra seems more like with some tweaks that she's more appropriately support (maybe she should have the teleporter?) than pure offense.

McCree and Hanzo almost seem like they could be switched. Or in some fifth set of "both-way" heroes.

This all probably reads totally stupid but it's brilliant analysis from somebody who has played like four hours or something and is level six or seven. :doge

You've much to learn still, slow and steady.
The McCree and Hanzo comparison make chuckle.
Make sure to pick Hanzo all the time, he is a fan favourite character :doge

stuff

The descriptions for the classes are mostly meaningless.

Just like every game of this type most people want to play the "offensive" classes so its generally a rush to them. McCree, Soldier 76, etc.

Finding good healers is rare. And finding good Reinhardt's or a team that will help a Reinhardt is like sifting for diamonds in a shit pile.

Played some Paladins on xbox one which is in closed beta. Never tried the PC version.

It's fun. I mean its as blatant a clone as you can make in many aspects but the actual game is fun to play if you can get over the discomfort of what it is you are playing. Ultimately I don't think its any worse than the multitude of MOBA clones that exist in the world.

I completely forgot that existed. Much of it's publicity ultimately came from those totally coincidental similarities.

So I played this ALOT today. Paladins I mean.

I kinda think its more fun than overwatch.  :-[

I mean overwatch is the more balanced game. And the controls are tighter. And a dozen or two other things I could spout off. But kinda think the characters here are more fun. Their abilities are a bit more unique.

Either way both are really good games and I'm happy they both exist. I'll play them both a lot in the future.

I liked Junkenstein the most, but I still like Mei's Snowball Offensive. It's fun to play with friends, and a nice break from the other modes. It's way less fun playing with randoms though.

Just got this in the snowball offensive though.I guess it counts as "quick play" since it isn't in the Arcade.

That's specific to the seasonal event. The Halloween one had similar achievements for beating it with all four characters, not letting the door take damage, etc

All I did was go to the side and kobe a shot to the upper floor from below, since someone usually tries to set up there.

I got the "go 3-0" achievement as well. Idk how you are supposed to get "4 shots without missing" unless you play passive as fuck, along with "hit 3 people while they are sucking up snow"

It was just pure luck in my case. I didn't bother with the achievement since it sounded horribly difficult. But I saw someone with their back against me (probably reloading/waiting) and just thought "I wonder how hard it would be to hit them from here". They were reloading in the middle of the map, so the line of sight was pretty straight forward.

And fuck, I didn't realize it was mode-specific when I posted here, my brain doesn't work well tonight.

If you stay behind the others a bit and aim for the ones who wasted their shots on your teammates (RIP), it's probably possible. You can wall behind them and stuff, especially inside the building on the sides.

I like Snowball offensive for 2 or 3 rounds of goofing before we start playing the real modes. But its no Junkenstein. That mode was the real deal.

Been using speakers? How did you survive enemy footsteps?

In the start when the game was new, I got tired of the hero voices and turned it off because I didn't realize it would have been helpful to avoid Ults and such. lol

I'm pretty much a Rein main and the #1 one tip I can give is you play in a group. I know its sounds like sour grapes but honestly 9 times out of 10 randoms will just leave you out to dry as a Rein. You need people behind you spitting out damage to push or crack the rein shield on the other side. And unless you are just nagging the shit out of them randoms won't do it as everybody is trying to be a flank master.

Playing with just even one person to help you is more do-able. Especially if its a Dva.

If I play with a group or people I trust, I'll rein everytime. But if the randoms won't help its just better to switch to a dva or zarya who can offensively hold their own. Or have someone else Rein and then support them.

Maybe that's why it's been hard to get into him, I always play solo since I don't know too many people who play when I do. I usually stick with D.Va, because it works regardless, ESPECIALLY when someone is actually healing me. So I guess Rein is squishy when no one pays attention to him? Oh well.. I'm just trying to decently learn 2ish heroes from each role so I have more options to feel comfortable with.

It's not that he's squishy. It's that he serves a specific role. And if your team isn't playing to the strength of that role then playing rein is the most frustrating shit ever. Because if you don't have that support behind you, a team can just jump on you and surround you and make you useless. At high levels and in pro overwatch Rein is essential. But at low levels where people don't play as a team correctly, it can often be extremely frustrating.

If you're going solo probably the best way to practice him is on payload maps on attack, as everyone needs to stay near the cart for the most part anyway. I'd say he's one of the heroes that everyone should figure out along with Soldier, Lucio, and maybe Junkrat since they're all useful in most scenarios.

In the long run, level doesn't matter, although it does reflect how much time you've put into the game. I remember being level 5 when a friend of mine invited me to his group (right after OW's launch). They were all 80+ and a bunch of TF2 addicts. I hadn't played FPS in a decade. It was tough. Glad your kid is enjoying it though!

Also I stopped playing comp because it made me start hating OW.

yeah, it's not like Call of Duty where like that happens and you're instantly dead and can't fathom why or how and the killcam just shows you a guy facing a wall with a purple camouflage rifle and pot leaf dogtags

i was going to say it's more like if TF2 had player levels but you do unlock extra weapons and stuff in that

some of the skins are slightly harder to discern at a distance immediately if you're unfamiliar so you won't be exactly sure of what abilities you're facing but i think that's about all? i mean, like if someone is hovering around or running up walls you can pretty much pick that out even if the skin is wacky.

I'll likely go back to it, but my new copy of Titanfall 2 probably needs immediate love before the servers turn ghost town.

It definitely helps when you know what abilities all the heroes have (or at least an idea of what to watch out for, especially when you hear their Ultimate voice line), and what they look like, even in different skins. It helps even more when you know how to play them, but it takes a looooot of time and effort that way. OW was extremely confusing for me at first (I'm an MMORPG person), and I never understood what was happening in all the gifs and POTG videos people posted online in the beginning.

OW is a lot of fun in Quick Play though. Bonus to you for living in Asia, because the NA server can be quite toxic. I went there before to play with NA friends, but the attitude was terrible a lot of the time. So I just stick with Asia, plus the ping is nice!

There are a lot of cheaters in Asia OW, but I can't say it's game-ruining? It's not like every match I play have them. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the cheaters are on your own team, or if you're just playing with someone good. At least Blizzard Korea recently banned over 10k people. Whether they'll all come back or not, we'll see. It's probably veeery different for comp though. I played some season 2, and it was very hard to communicate with people.

I'll be playing on PS4, so my assumption is that hacking is a non-issue. At least, hacking seems really uncommon on Xbox Live. I know PSN has a lower reputation for maintaining integrity, but I haven't seen anyone actually hack in any of my online games. I get called a hacker a lot in World of Tanks by scrubs who don't even bother to check my Achievements/Trophies, but hey.

The only hacking you could possibly do is controller mods. I've never heard of any software hacks out there. Any exploits (map, gameplay) are software related and blame on developers.

Speaking on Xbox of course, I know PC is full of hacks and piracy.
