Might not have a bunch of classics

:what

- Highway to Hell
- TNT
- Hells Bells
- Thunderstruck
- Shook Me All Night Long
- Back in Black
- Shoot to Thrill
- Let There Be Rock
- Its a Long Way to the Top
- For Those About to Rock
- Dirty Deeds

I'm talking about albums, not tracks. Obviously AC/DC has a shit ton of classic tracks...

It's just odd that you would post a link of not even the full band playing when someone asks about the band ???

Someone asks about Queen, I'm not going to link a video with Elton John playing/singing and not Freddie. Just weird.

Fucking gods of speed metal :rejoice

AC/DC most definitely has classics, you are a hater if you deny that. You can not like them or their music, but downplaying their best work? Nah.

Oh and Let There Be Rock is the best AC/DC album(I'm sure that would be considered controversial somewhere):

Okay this is good.

You know, the worst thing about AC/DC is the goddamn jukebox conspiracy. Go to ANY primarily white bar in the country and wait 15 minutes....SOMEBODY will place AC/DC, happens every fucking time.

hey, if it's a sold out and in-demand show like New Years or Halloween, ragged hippy chicks are willing perform sex acts for tix, flashing, bj, etc.  Probably better off trading for drugs though.

You get a nice mix of rich suburb douches, the despicable last bastion of touring hippies, and ever-shrinking numbers of college kids and teens at phish shows.  Makes for some good people watching, particularly when everyone's hitting nitrous after the show.

Interstate Love Song is probably the best rock song of the 90's (Everlong being a close second). Even though that song (ILS) could fit into just about any era, it has a timeless feel to it.

I like Alice in Chains on a theoretical level (crunchy riffs and dope harmonizing) but listening to dirt is like watching your brother shoot up in an alley pissing himself. ain't nobody want to see that. nirvana was kind enough to keep it abstract and art-y with a dose of altpunk noise.

I will admit they are a bit uneven and the lyrics often suck.

There are exactly 3 Christmas related things worth listening to: the Peanuts holiday album, Fairy Tale of New York from the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, and Rufus Wainwright's Spotlight on Christmas. Everything else is rubbish.

The guitar work in this is the best thing Tom Morello ever did.

Gets incredibly epic towards the end.
Renegades is my favorite Rage album, imo they were way better when Zack was just providing energy instead of writing and morello was allowed to just riff to his hearts content. Also,  those albums are Loudness War'd to fuck, which I'm guessing is Rubins influence

What do you think of Jar of Flies?

That one gets me from beginning to end.
Oh I really do like pretty much everything AiC has done, I just can't listen to it, it puts me in a dark mood long after I hit stop. Maybe that's a testament to how real it is, I dunno. Junkhead is one of the worst-best songs I've ever heard, if that makes sense. Since I'm a nirvana stanley I guess a comparison in my mind would be listening to All Apologies on repeat for an hour.

Also, Radiohead lacking swag is kind of the point. Thom Yorke's self-loathing is a big part of what elevates that band to elite-tier.

Again though: seeing them live changes things. Watch them bang out Myxomatosis and tell me they don't have power, at least.

By far the most swagless band I've ever seen live is Vampire Weekend (they were at Coachella and didn't conflict with another band I was interested in, so I went).

You might as well have played their cd over the PA system and set up cardboard cutouts of the band members.

Idioteque live

Genuinely controversial opinion: people who are musicians have shitty musical taste, as they will routinely conflate difficulty with something worth listening to. This explains prog rock.

Dude is IMMENSELY right.

There's tons of music that love because of the "artistry" of its construction like this:

Would I say it's worth listening to if you're not someone who understands or cares about the intricacies? Absolutely not. Sorta like my point about Jazz.

prog is almost literally deader than disco.  I like some of it, but in a lot of ways, it's a genre that's more valuable as an influence in other genres and styles. there are certainly corny music students who still love it and idiots who conflate difficulty and quality, I'll give ya that.  It's like a rite of passage for a high school guitar student to go through this phase when they're trying to find "the best"

It's why no one with any real taste can listen to Rush. Sure, technically what they're doing is incredible, but Geddy Lee sings like an elf being tortured. If you can overlook that, you're probably on the spectrum, just saying.

It perfectly explains wank of all kinds. One of the few things I've learned playing an instrument is that time dialation alone accounts for a lot of what people think is "taste". Anything can get filtered out like traffic noise if you're not used to the sound.
It also explains why some music seems to 'grow' the more you listen to it.

I still prefer simpler stuff though, but maybe just because I have a hard time listening attentively when I'm not playing myself.

Let's get some classical music opinions in here:

- Vivaldi, Rachmaninoff and Borodin are actually quite good composers and are largely undeserving of the derision they get.
- Mozart is sorta overrated. He definitely has some masterpieces but they're not the ones that everyone talks about like the Rondo alla Turka, or the Jupiter Symphony or Eine Kleine Nacht Musik. Those are just memorable. His good stuff is rarely popular.
- Chopin is overrated. Everything he did Listz did better. Chopin just enjoys popularity because he's got that tragic emotional boy thing going on
- The piano is a percussion instrument
- Dvorak is largely overrated as is Prokofiev
- The most important composer of the late 20th century was not Adams, or Carter or Dun or Tower. It was Piazolla.
- They like to say there's no such thing as a perfect piece of music, but they're wrong. Beethoven's 9th is a damned perfect piece of music
- Rossini > Wagner
- Schoenberg set classical music back several decades
- I am shocked the Castlenuovo-Tedesco isn't more highly regarded possibly the best composer of the mid 20th century
- Villa-Lobos had some good pieces but outside of those he isn't very good.
- It is sad that the Lute is no longer in general play but the harp is. That makes no sense to me.
- The general state of modern classical music is pretty terrible. Hell, some videogame pieces are better suited for performance than a lot of what is being produced today.
- If someone who listens to your piece can't remember any of it distinctly then you've written/played a bad piece.

Because the style wouldn't work on a (normal) guitar.

Yeah, my point is that the lute died because it was too hard to play and the guitar just did it better.
The harp is sorta in the same boat. It's too hard to tune and too hard to play and the piano just does it better. The only thing that it does well that other stuff can't do easier and better is those wide sweeping arpeggiated runs, but only that.
