The teaser video was removed, but images have been captured from it.  This was likely an announcement for the PS Experience Event that got leaked.

It's an American trailer.  This must be what Capcom was teasing with that "Hadouken Cabs" stuff a while back.

Looks like an updated version of the SF4 engine. I hope this time there's less emphasis links, and I hope the reversal window is much tighter. No comeback mechanics is probably too much to ask for.

The moneyhat doesn't bother me since I plan on getting a PS4 for Bloodborne, Persona, and Ys anyway, but I think it's a stupid move by Capcom. It's not like fighting games are selling amazingly well, so to prevent, I dunno, 40% of your audience from playing the #1 title will only hurt the community in the long run. Especially since Super SF5 will surely be on the Xbone a year later anyway.

Capcom isn't doing very well financially.  I suspect this is exclusive because Sony is paying for a chunk of it.

The fighting game community at large hasn't really moved to the current-gen consoles yet.  This pretty much ensures that everyone goes PS4 now.

Were Sony afraid that Microsoft was going to buy this or something? I'm not sure why they're paying for this.

The real question is "would this game have gotten made if another company didn't back them?"  Of course, that's all just speculation on my part.  But Sony had to have money-hatted them for some reason.

Anyway, good on them for getting a sequel under development already.  Street Fighter IV is more than six years old and those expansion sales have only been going down.

If it was a "Without Sony this game wouldn't exist" situation, I doubt there would be a PC version ala Deep Down.

Were Sony afraid that Microsoft was going to buy this or something? I'm not sure why they're paying for this.

Fighting game players were mostly on 360 last generation since PSN is a piece of shit in regards to netcode for fighters and a lot of the buyers are playing online. (Tournament players bought 360 because that's where most of the tournaments were played so they weren't "frame lagged," as well) It's not hard to see Sony buying it to get the fanbase on one system and not compete over frames/"arcade perfect" etc for tournaments.

That said, I can't see it being a huge "get" for Sony in regards to getting more than... 2million max (and that's being generous) on the system.

They've also somehow made the art-style even worse with this darker graphical pallet. :/ Udon art, please go. :( I'd kill for Capcom to pull a Guilty Gear: Xrd and "anime" their characters in a clean-anime style like that. Less Udon, more Arc-ish if I'm making sense.

If it was a "Without Sony this game wouldn't exist" situation, I doubt there would be a PC version ala Deep Down.

Something comes to mind on this- Sony money-hatted Injustice Ultimate Edition, yet a PC version was still released.  This seems to be the same.

Fighting game players were mostly on 360 last generation since PSN is a piece of shit in regards to netcode for fighters and a lot of the buyers are playing online. (Tournament players bought 360 because that's where most of the tournaments were played so they weren't "frame lagged," as well)

That's not quite the reason why.  The Capcom fighters run better on 360, so the majority of tournament players all play on it over PS3.  The PS3 versions of the games are like .1 frames off compared to the arcade versions of SFIV, IIRC.  Some small number that nobody else would ever notice.  Online play has nothing to do with it-- to hardcore players, netcode is shit no matter what the game and platform is.  :lol  There are also some games where the community is on one platform over the other just because, like Tekken players sticking to Sony consoles.

It's not hard to see Sony buying it to get the fanbase on one system and not compete over frames/"arcade perfect" etc for tournaments.

That said, I can't see it being a huge "get" for Sony in regards to getting more than... 2million max (and that's being generous) on the system.

This is definitely huge for the fighting game community.  Sony has "won" in that sense, but like you said it really doesn't matter.  I would argue that fighting game players were going to shift over to PS4 anyway, since stuff like GG are only on Sony platforms anyway.

I wonder if they will go that route this time.  We're in the age of DLC now.  Easy enough for them to just sell 'Super' DLC for $15-$20 instead.  They did this AE and Ultra already anyway.  People seem to forget that.

that was certainly the case for the transition between 2 to 3, and 3 to 4, but those were complete overhauls and this is seemingly building off of SF4's tech (including models, animations and gfx like the brush effects). Obviously it would be headless to throw out all the SF4 stuff and start fresh, but I wonder what they'll do to make it distinct. Are they ditching the focus attack and ultra combos? Both seem to appear in the snippet. And what would they replace them with if they did? If they don't, what can they add on top that makes this feel like Street Fighter 5 instead of Super Ultra Street Fighter 4?

Right, but that's what I'm getting at. This isn't a GTA or Final Fantasy XIII or anything on that level sort of "big deal." Fighting Games have been niche for... what... 15 years? This being exclusive isn't going to help Sony as much as trying to exclusive other titles. But it's a "get" in regards to getting a niche fanbase to stick to one platform for them.

In any case, it's going to be interesting to see those that don't want to jump on the PS4 jump on PC or see how the PC numbers do.

It's way, way too early for any information like this to come out yet.  I would assume focus and Ultras will be ditched in favor of something new, though.  That's usually what happens with new entries.

Unless they're going to break that trend and follow the Tekken route, I.E. new entry that builds on top of the previous game.  But then why bother calling it SFV?  We'll see!

One thing that didn't happen -again- is a redesign for the new characters.

I am pretty positive about stuff initially, sure.  But there's just some games I can't see getting fucked up, and this is one of them.  That's completely from a game play standpoint, though- we can see how they've fucked up with the way they handled Street Fighter X Tekken's "DLC".

now that i've looked at them side-by-side....I can see the differences.  but I guess if they're going for the same art style I shouldn't expect a super huge leap in Ryu and Chun-li.  Gotta keep those characters fairly classic looking in their normal get up.

Like DOA, you can probably turn those off. Unlike DOA, it'll probably be on ALL stages instead of the "non-freefalling" stages.

This is not the first time a Capcom fighter has had stage transitions.  You can do this in Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 on the bathhouse level.  This likely is just going to be a visual thing and no extra damage will occur like how DOA handles it.

I don't agree with Angry Joe here.  I have no problem with actual third party game console exclusivity.  It's a good way to sell systems.  I.E., I caved in and got a Wii U for Bayonetta 2.  It's when DLC is made console-specific that I have a problem.

And did he rant when Dead Rising 3 was announced as XBone only?   :P
