There's four weapons.

I thought it was kind of fun, but the roller seemed waaaaaay more effective than guns and once I played the two maps a couple of times, I was done. Forcing gyro aiming in the initial training mode was a bad idea, but fortunately once you complete it, this can be turned off. The game pad being required makes sense, for once- you get a map at the bottom and can touch your allies to super-jump over to them.

The announcement trailer pretty much showed everything the game was going to do, a la Titanfall. Just "OMG A SHOOTER ON NINTENDO! *FAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAPFAP*" from the Nintendo-fanbase.

That's not to say that the concept isn't novel. It is. But if your entire hook is "cover the map in paint, whoever covers the most wins." You... need to find a better "hook."

yeah the main goal is painting most of the map. killing other squids slows them down and makes them explode in paint of your color. but you can play the support role by coloring in the lines. and some weapons are focused on killing, because the sniper rifle seems impractical for taking territory.

I don't know about other modes. although apparently the game is shipping incomplete or something? what I heard is it comes without much and they'll add in maps and modes in the following months for free.

I had a lot of fun. Could it get boring after a while? Totally possibly. But the whole "paint the stage" aspect adds a really unique strategy twist that a lot of the "just shoot people" players are going to totally fail at. This isn't Gears of War or whatever.

It definitely isn't just painting the stage, though. Helping to control the other team and making sure they aren't gaining territory is an equal mix of smart thinking and taking them out to slow down their progress.

The splattergun jr. or whatever it's called is pretty good for general coverage and has some quick refill in exchange for bad recoil and short range. I freqently got between 800-1000 points with that loadout (Even got a match with a 12-1 K/D) It's just the other two (Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle equivelents) are complete useless shitshows with no real benefits.

The main issue with the roller is that it has the same movement speed of other weapons, has better ink coverage. Has the same range as the Splattergun Jr. whenever you use the stomp attack and is pretty much an instant kill if you are even close to another player. Why bother with another class when you can just roll around at speed, cover the ground and fuck over the other team by covering the flat ground choke points. First team to do that is usually the one that wins.

The game is decent, sure. Just if the content is as low as the direct made out and Nintendo is as stubborn at tweaking the games as others like Smash then I think I'm going to pass.

What is up with racing games these days that are all about going in straight lines really fast with very few curves in the road.

It's more about passively watching scenery whizz you by at high speeds than it is about racing. No challenge or depth whatsoever.

As someone who watched 33 minutes of Nintendo Direct about this, I'd say they're going more for tweens. Tons of mall fashion stuff in the persistent part of the game.

I will respectfully disagree! I did my best with the regular Splattergun, and think I liked it's longer range and stronger shots better than the Splattergun Jr. And, I don't know, I usually didn't find it hard to take out Roller players unless I was being stupid. Squid into the paint, quickly back off, and then focus on the Roller with either shots or grenade. From what I saw, Rollers were great at covering territory quickly, but not really worth much in battle unless they had back-up or you had non-Roller players who didn't know what they were doing. Or, I mean, unless you had a Roller player that was REALLY good.

i played the final hour today and had a lot more fun. people learned how to deal with the roller so its not really op anymore. i'm not buying it until it's a lot cheaper and has more content, but its a good game.

A story mode doing what...running around painting maps with AI players? I hope it's something more than that.

Just watched a video. It's the same as multiplayer. You still run around painting everything and fight CPU enemies.

Well isn't painting the levels one of the main means of transportations in this game? I don't feel it's unreasonable that the single players uses the main gameplay elements of the multiplayer mode.

Looks pretty different to just a bot match sp mode.
