Worked 16 (full) hours and then right before I left at midnight, I went to check on some samples set on a rotator in another room, and appparently a few of them got loose (my fault) and a few steel bolts had broken when they got lodged against the sides but I don't think that's going to be expensive to reweld so whatever. The real problem was when I unlodged the samples, within a second the whole thing tumbled over because it was apparently still on (my fault again) and my shoelace ended up getting spun into it and the massive contraption swung it's base into my shin. The result of this was me on the ground with a huge, broke ass piece of lab equipment holding me like a mousetrap. I won't lie, I was a little bit upset at the situation. Managed to turn everything off, swing it back away and tomorrow I'll just explain wtf happened.

I doubt anyone will be mad at me about the delay on that project. It was my first time using that thing and the level of damage/delay really isn't a big deal.

But just FUCK.

Not to patronize or anything because I have done my share of overtime, but long hours and safety at work mix as well as oil and water.

So got home from work at 11pm and my floor was smelling gas. Had to call the gas emergency service and there was indeed a leak in the communal stairs at my level. The joint on the casket is dead as shit, and the technician had to cut our whole building until proper intervention tomorrow. Some of my neighbours are in for a rough surprise tomorrow morning (If it's like my flat, gas is used for cooking, heating, hot water)  :doge but you can't really mess around with this.

Its good that technology/programming allows for warnings like that to pop on phones, sorry you were put in that situation Walrus.

On the subject of The Shield, I read about how there was a cut storyline with Ronnie that revolved around his backstory and Julien. Ronnie as a kid went to a pray the gay away camp because he was gay as a teen, think he got sexually abused or raped at the camp. He despised Julien for Julien making the decision to pray the gay away as a fully grown adult. Would've added a good amount of depth to Ronnie and Julien.

Also, there was an episode where Julien's wife's son calls the police because of how Julien and his wife were arguing. Sorta eerie how his character was part of domestic abuse on the show, and then later executes his wife in front of his children.

I covered these warnings in the Shit You Hate thread. In short, they're bullshit.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the Ronnie plot you mentioned, but I know I've read multiple places that Michael Jace didn't want to continue doing gay storylines, and it's why his character didn't get as much to do later in the series.

The Ronnie plot was cut due to a shorter schedule for the last season, it was meant to be something that added depth to his character before the show ended. Didn't know Michael Jace put the kabash on Julien as a character essentially. He became a failed mentor for Tina and not much else later on.

Billings did make up for some characters not mattering, he was a fantastic comedy element in a show that got really unnerving and dire. Changing the scope to only revolve around the Strike team + Dutch and Claudette from season 5 onward was a great decision, dropping some characters off in exchange for what we got was worth it.

Something it doesn't get enough credit for is how far it pushed what can be shown on cable TV. The only thing that makes it not like a HBO produced show is the word fuck and there not being many sex scenes.

Just got a call from my credit card company asking about some elaborate charges that were made today. Baffled I ask "uh, like what?" because I did order Taco Bell twice today. Instead it was thousands of dollars worth of charges in Detroit. Electronics and other shit. None of the charges are going to stick obviously which is good news, but I did shut down all my cards just to be sure. So the bad news is that I have to hold off on some shit I planned to do this weekend.

I do have a decent amount of cash around the house though, just in case I want to go to Taco Bell again.

The Shield is a classic and as I caught heat for many times, I still rank it above The Wire.  It's fading into obscurity because FX does a poor job of having their shit on streaming services outside of It's Always Sunny.

Pretty sure my producer got canned today. He had a one on one with the boss at 5pm, came back and got his stuff (including things he never takes home) and left without saying anything (he usually says something). Then half an hour later the boss came in and announced we were all going to the bar at 6pm.

The upside is I got pretty drunk on my boss' dime tonight. The downside is tomorrow is probably gonna suck.

It's not uncommon for middle managers to quit when upper management sets unrealistic goals. Unfortunately, it sounds like your work schedule is gonna suck balls for a while.

Aren't you in crunch?

Well I've been repeatedly told not to work late, but I do because the project is in dire straits and history has taught me that this is the accepted solution but I guess this company is actually trying to not have that kind of culture. I was told today that more schedule adjustments will be made because they've finally realized how ridiculously mismanaged this whole project has been. The designer didn't get canned but he is being phased off the project and a new producer was assigned today.

Been dealing with a friend who is about to make a major major mistake, and I guess it's time to just give up and let her ruin her life. She's 20, her dad died when she was a kid and she qualifies for a shit ton of student aid money. She wants to be a medical assistant and then go into nursing - not a bad idea, nursing is a nice field. The problem is that she is dead set on going to one of those "colleges," similar to Everest/Ross/ITT Tech/etc. Non-accredited, lots of bad reviews...just a blatant waste of money.

I've been begging her not to do this, given that it will waste her aid money and she'll "graduate" with nothing to show for it. Then when she can't find a job she'll try to go back to school and realize she has to start over again at a non-scam school, but have to pay out of pocket now that the aide is gone. She doesn't want to go to a community college because "I don't want to go back to school."
:mindblown

There is no easy path here. Having worked in medical fields before (dental) I know this shit first hand. I've seen hygienists from these scam programs come in and do working interviews...and not be able to do their job at fucking all. I'm not exaggerating, I literally knew how to do their job better than they did. And at the end I watched as the doctor told them hiring them wasn't going to happen in large part because small businesses have to pay a % to the "school" if they hire one of their "students." I shit you not, it's fucking terrible.

But at this point she's dead set on it. She was going to start in the summer but delayed it to the fall. So I have more time to talk some sense into her but it's not gonna work. I told her straight up look, in 2-3 years you're going to think back to this conversation and be devastated that you didn't take my advice, and I won't be able to help you at that point. You're going to be fucked.

My sister went to a for profit college and the only way she got a job was by taking it off of her resume.

$25,000 for an associate degree and in the end the diploma wasn't even worth the paper it was printed on.
