You can get an automatic feeder that's set on a timer. I saw one on Amazon that had six separate compartments that you could set to six different times.

Yeah, that could be good. I didn't have one of those. Although at the end of the day dry food is supposed to be worse for cats than wet food so idk.

I spent like 3 weeks last year writing, what I thought was, a very complex function. Today I realized that it can be simplified to like 5 lines of code if I just reshape the input tensor

While probably never calling for such extreme measures on my end, I know for a fact that parents can be the a source of toxicity for one's life even despite no active and outright malice on their part (though you seem to say in your case there might be some of that). Filial piety is a very real thing but it cannot justify everything. Putting a fair amount of distance is sometimes necessary. In short I can empathize and you shouldn't be too ashamed of yourself if you feel that's the only recourse you have left.

As for options for emigration, is there less costly or difficult destinations for you to attain than the US, maybe some expatriation mission through your job ? I imagine Western Europe would be subject to much the same song and dance than the US but perhaps somewhere else ? Within the confine of your career it would offer some fresh air and distance on a temporary basis.

I get that, too. It's been better for a couple years. Try getting out, running, martial arts, meditation, anything to put your mind in a different state. Manage your stress. Or, hey, address the source of your stress if you can: work on the project, follow up with participants, or otherwise push things to move.
