They're certainly a cautionary tale for companie that try to go to far too fast. I think a lot of people already understood the concept, but No Man's Sky just gives a new, modern example of what happens when you don't make gradual progression.

So I decided to see what Hello Games had done in the past to be able to provide such entertainment for us spectators to this debacle.  So let me get this straight....they've only made two other games?

To be fair, I understand that Murray himself was formerly at Criterion and the same for some of his partners (Criterion, Kuju, Sega). Doesn't mean they were prepared for managing such a project (they mostly seem to be the artist/dev type) with sudden high expectations or that they could have pulled off their original design document, of course. Not to make excuses for the guy but I wouldn't want to be in their shoes in those last two years. Plus let's be realistic : they can't exactly come out to make public amends, they're gonna get shot down whatever they have to say. Their best bet is probably to lay low and provide the best support possible to No Man's Sky, hopefully making it a much better game than at release. It won't wash away the stigma but they would gain back some goodwill.

Do you deserve a refund if you haven't even tried to do some basic trouble shooting?

Lot's of people(myself included) have played more than 50 hours. So it's not that the software doesn't work once you hit that point.

Maybe it requires re-installation, or scrapping your save, but I'm pretty sure the software he purchased still works.

Now it may suck to lose all your progress to a corrupted save after 50 hours, but that doesn't IMO mean you deserve your money back. Especially when the developer is actively releasing patches.

TBF if you used something for 50 hours already and something happens to the product (save game wipe) it is unfair to demand a refund, you can demand a fix and that is what the def is doing.

Like if you buy a car and it breaks after 15000 KM you don't get a refund, they fix your fucking car.

I'm all pro consumer but you have to be reasonable to a manufacturer as well.

It makes much more sense to issue refunds if you buy a multiplayer game and the servers are down for the first week. Then you can't actually use the product at all.

They wanted me to explain something to them that they were ignorant about and I expect it was disingenuous. I initially assumed NMS was going to be a relaxing game where you go to different galaxies, explore, and participate in a multiplayer metagame of selling unique materials and saving people/planets/factions etc.

 It's just so shocking that something that seemed so innocent could be a breeding ground for these types of people.

 I was hoping that it would be either a really great game or a huge disappointment, but not like this.
