It's Christmas day. Valve is probably running on a skeleton crew.

Not saying this should be swept under the rug but I'll give them a day or two to release a statement as long as everything is now secure.

Exactly. The entire Washington DC, including the White House could be offline and I wouldn't be answering my phone. It's Christmas.

Is it too much to ask for Gordon Freeman to announce "Probably not a problem"?

These people do not live in reality.

If you're a hermit in a dead end job furiously jacking off gaming companies I guess I could see why you wouldn't care about your personal info being out there.

How anything can be called "secure" when the breach already happened is wut  :doge

I don't think I've touched Steam in months (most of my PC games are either physical copies or GOG) but my brother was browsing games on it today. Just sent him a text...

On a more serious note, I do get where a lot of the goodwill for Valve comes from. I think their advertised work philosophy is appealing and a lot of workplaces would be happier if they took one or two pages out of their handbook (not everyone is a fan tho). However the fact is that the company has a terrible track record on costumer support and to a lesser extent at communicating their plannings to their audience (if not in making plannings in the first place).

Just outsource that shit if it's so conflicting to your core values. I'm sure there's excellent partners to contract with provided you can pay the prize (and Valve certainly can), at least in the Customer Support area even though you'll probably have problems when they will need to get some info from Valve.

I think the astroturfing often goes way beyond that and is clearly fueled by a very rose-tinted view of Valve as an entity, most notably of their internal philosophies and policies. Honestly, from the outside perspective of a customer, Steam does share a lot of of the terrifying stuff than what the faceless giant conglomerates do.

There's serious consumerism issues in the way people treat video game brands and the companies behind them. Had that have been Origin that had a massive data breech, the internet would have imploded because it was EA and people would have been out for blood. With Valve, there's a ton of brand evangelists astroturfing because they see their own online identity and personas as associative. And since it's neogaf where this sort of brand association and astroturfing is encouraged than derided, you end up with a massive fucking problem where people are totally oblivious and tell people "It's just your personal data, pfffft. Valve will take care of it. Valve are good to us".

Idiocy writ large.

"In Tokyo’s popular ”Electric Town” district, Akihabara, vampires called “Synthisters” walk among us. You must identify and dispose of them the only way you know how – by engaging them in hand-to-hand combat in order to strip them of their clothes so their bodies melt away in the sunlight."

Not that I am interested in the game, but apparently the depiction of Akihabara is insanely faithful (They asked and got permission to use logos for a lot of the shops and billboards), the mechanics are somewhat decent (It's Acquire) and some of the writing is a bit tongue in cheek. But yeah, it's a brawler where you strip teens and it's soaked in otaku culture.

Not really surprising.

Despite not being a console, looking around forums and PC mustard race sites show that there is plenty of fanboyism. Fueled by extreme feelings of elitism and superiority.
No surprise the mustard racers would then downplay shit or engage in obfuscation, some of them literally think they are better than others for PC gaming.

I thought with how PCs have been getting the best ports of most third-party games over the last decade that there'd be less people using video game audio/visuals as penis substitutes. I feel like the same thing will happen when electric/fuel cell cars start performing better than regular gas/diesels. Some people just can't enjoy fun for fun when buying decisions can raise their pathetically weak self-confidence.

I love plinkett but the way people put his reviews on a pedestal despite them not being completely iron tight and being done for the purposes of entertainment is lol. They'll use his nitpick arguments as actual argument ignoring that the nitpick is done for hyperbolic comedic purposes.

His reviews are great and have overarching lessons for filmmaking but some people take them too seriously for what are supposed to be for the purpose of entertainment.

I don't think there's any reason for a Plinkett review. He only reviews movies with severe flaws and potential for dozens of nitpicks. The Plinkett reviews might be my favorite series of video reviews for anything, but I don't think RLM should do them just cause.

A Plinkett review of Dunston Checks In would be more entertaining and insightful than a review of TFA.

Plinkett reviews were done for the Star Trek reboot and Titanic. Two movies Mike views as good or okay but have serious flaws. The main criticism for Star Trek 2009 was it felt like Star Wars a lot more than it felt like Star Trek. JJ eventually made the Star Wars movie he always wanted to make.

Well, exactly. If there was a TFA Plinkett review 80% of it would be "it's kinda like in the Star Trek reboot, except it works this time cause it's Star Wars."
