None of the incidents are ever caused by "incompetence", incidentally. Almost all are either deliberate or have direct consequences that led to them. The entire story from beginning to present is a domino effect. There's a firm logic to it that it adheres to completely, a problem I have with other plot-heavy games.

Most people are unaware of just how detailed the stories are. If you take what was written in each scenario and accompanying development notes relevant to the plot or mythology, the games represent only about 1/3 of their overall plot, since stories revolving around all of this raw information simply wouldn't be good games. The games are designed to represent narratives with tension, mystery and so on, which information dumps lack. There is also simply no real way to present a lot of information in the game's narrative, like character hobbies and such. Rebecca isn't going to talk about her love of basketball in a monster filled building, is she? All of the enemies in the series have detailed histories, but putting these in a horror game would detract from the objective of provoking fear, since people fear the unknown more than something they have detailed information on.

If you play the English versions, you're introduced to a handful of plot holes with each game. There are none in the original scripts.

I was the same. Always had a PC hooked up to the same living room setup as my consoles. My last build though, I bought a 21:9 monitor and put it in a separate room with a desk and office chair. Might be because the missus and kid always seem to be in the way on the sofa, but office chair > comfy couch for me. Might grab one of those Steam Link jobbies though eventually.

the kids in life is strange are awful people

max is obsessed with herself. she has a snarky comment for every little thing in her head, but when interacting with people, she plays herself down constantly like she doesn't think she's hot shit. Her inner monologue is filled with "i know better than you" bullshit. "Oh it's bad enough you kill the deer, but you display its head" BITCH YOU CLEARLY DON'T CARE BOUT OTHER PEOPLE BUT OH SHIT THE POOR DEER

Chloe is a mess. She is constantly goading and pressuring Max into doing shit she doesn't want to through guilt "smoke this weed because you didn't text me back" "abuse your powers cuz you didn't get me back" "DONT ANSWER THE PHONE CUZ YOU DIDN'T TEXT ME BACK" she is constantly displaying abusive and controlling behavior in all her interactions with Max. Their text messages are the worst offender. Max: "i'm on my way" Chloe: "LESS THAN 40 MINUTES OR ELSE" like she's being jokey but it's equally as controlling. and on top of that she is constantly talking about her other missing/dead friend in front of Max, about how good a friend she was etc, meanwhile Max has insecurities on how she's not as cool a friend as that girl so that along with the constant guilting pressures her into hanging out with Chloe and doing bad shit, just to get in the same pedestal as the other girl.

Not to mention Chloe is the snarkiest, dumbest kid ever. "I believe in gun control ya'know" Oh really? I didn't realize the existence of gun control was this point of contention, as if there is not gun control in America, as if it's not difficult to be a licensed carrier, let alone as if people have no right owning guns. meanwhile in the very next episode, she acquires a firearm ILLEGALLY. So no, actually, you don't believe in gun control because you are illegally possessing a firearm. And you are clearly illegally possessing a firearm cuz you think it's fun and want to screw around with it. which is what licensed gun owners know not to do. Then in that ricochet sequence there's a branch where she can get shot by her own ricochet and she says "STUPID GUN" y'know, because IT"S THE FUCKING GUNS FAULT YOU WERE PLAYING AROUND WITH IT

oh god and speaking of manipulating bitch, fucking Warren

He's the biggest piece of shit i've ever seen. The constant texts with no reply, getting more and more desperate as he goes "I'm lonelyyyy answer me PLEASE" he goes for a hug at first UGH. The text where he sends a pic of his black eye "hey look i got beat up for you, YOU OWE ME ONE" this motherfucker is literally pretending to be her friend when all he wants to do is have sex with her. He doesn't do any of these things because they're the right thing to do, no, he just wants to see her naked. he asks her out, my character says no, cuz fuck this creep, he texts me later "manna i had so much fun you didn't come you owe me one" Warren you're a piece of shit kid. And Max probably loves the fact that this kid hangs around her, so she's glad to string him along

That fucking doucehbag hipster professor "you know, John Lenon once said life is what happens etc etc" and then when i reverse time, that narcissist is so impressed with me quoting it that i get out of handing in my work"

and all these doucebag kids constantly quote shit in such limited context and such obvious things that there was no need to attribute it to anyone, other than to sound smart and smell their own shit "it's like poe said, a dream within a dream" really? is that so unique a concept, it has to be attributed to him

i'm convinced that the people who like this game are the exact kind of people these characters are "Finally, a game for me, a white 20 something plaid shirt wearing san francisco based games journalist and bandwagoning faux hipster: the things i like are not obscure or intelligent in any way, but i like to think they are and that makes me better than most people.

It's one of those thin little hardcover books that come with most special edition of games. You know the one. It's nothing substantial... A bunch of fake collages with dumb "inspiring quotes" You're right I do hate the content, but it does have a lot of those water color-y pictures (don't know how to describe it) that all the pictures and posters have in the game. it's okay.

I like that some character acknowledge your snoopy nosiness. It's a cool little meta twist on what a player's behavior in these adventure games usually are.



I don't think it's a matter of realism in fiction. It's a matter of believability

Is the style and tone of the world you create so well realized and confident, that the player/watcher/reader etc. are not ripped out of it when they see characters do ANYTHING.

My favorite dialogue in games may be No More Heroes. The rambling, melodramatic poetry is not what anyone would call realistic, but it fits so well and it never goes too overboard. That's because it's confident enough in that you understand the style and what it conveys, that it doesn't hit you over the head with its stylization. The dialogue in a way feels grounded, because the world makes sense to the player.

Life is Strange: I feel like these characters are putting on a show. Like they are so self conscious of people thinking they're not cool, they gas themselves up, and go overboard to really nail that style. It doesn't work because it's not grounded, It gets more ridiculous as it goes on: it's like everyone is trying to outdo each other. There's always something dumber to be said around the corner.



It's a cute line. the tasty plasma though? overboard as fuck



The soundtrack is ok. I like an am open to that style, but when it's all samey folk, it just comes across as boring for me.

I can think a character is bad and hate a character, but the character does not have to be redeemed or right all along. Sometimes a bad person is a bad person: and that's the character.

I stand by everything I said, but i will concede that unlikeable people does not equal a bad story

Tho I do think it is a problem when a story happens and everyone is unlikeable. A friend of mine wrote a play and it was like this. the conceit was that everyone was unlikeable and did horrible things to each other, and each awful thing got so out of handed, it became unbelievable. Something like that can very well make a work undesirable.

I'm going to look for the shining light in Life is Strange. Bad people does not mean bad character. A character is bad, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can or should be done better. It just needs an anchor, and that's what i hope to find

I was the same. Always had a PC hooked up to the same living room setup as my consoles. My last build though, I bought a 21:9 monitor and put it in a separate room with a desk and office chair. Might be because the missus and kid always seem to be in the way on the sofa, but office chair > comfy couch for me. Might grab one of those Steam Link jobbies though eventually.

I have one, got it at launch pre-ordered. I haven't used it much because my network isn't heavy wired. If you're going short-distances wireless it's not too bad. But when they say "we want a wired network, please" they really mean it. Same with the remote play function on Sony's stuff.

Edit: I got a spare Life is Strange Episode 1 key off someone's humble bundle a few weeks ago. Should I get around to it, or is it like Telltales Walking Dead where your choices don't really matter but they give an ILLUSIONS MICHAEL. NOT TRICKS about it?

Life is Strange's main appeal is the storytelling and characters. If you aren't hooked by the end of the first episode, chances are you won't care about choices at all. A huge part of the game is rewinding time and playing around with current choices in real time.

I was really engaged with the story and characters and forgot about if my choices mattered or not.

I was really apprehensive with buying/playing it, and ended up enjoying it a lot. Exceeded Walking Dead season 1.

It's always been a niche game, and it only got great sales thanks to it becoming more anime with Awakening.

There was no reason for the minigame to go that was legitimate.

There's (poor, shitty) reasons to remove apparently homosexual content, but at least there's actual, bad reasons there.

The drug convo just sounded weird. I haven't watched a certain video that explained it in depth so I'm not going to hold an opinion on that.
