I've only really played Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2. Beat both of them. DS1 was really great, DS2 wasn't quite as good for several reasons but still a top-tier action game. But some people gotta get all twisted out of shape over things and it's either got better No.1 best game ever or total dog poop garbage.

Some mega diehard Dark Souls 1 fans treat Dark Souls 2 like its a DmC (2013) or GTA IV styled departure. This makes the sane people that enjoyed both or even enjoyed Dark Souls 2 more feel like they're taking crazy pills due to DS1 zealots. By departure I mean it in the sense that its something completely different.

Generally:

If you're someone that loves the Souls games mainly due to combat and building your character, Dark Souls 2 is better.

If you're someone that values world building combined with level design and storytelling, Dark Souls 1 is better.

Personally, I feel Dark Souls 2 is superior in almost every aspect compared to Dark Souls 1. Dark Souls 2 feels like a really long journey with tons of sight seeing. Dark Souls 1 felt like a tour in the most important place on a planet.

Dark Souls 2 will have more build options and be a meatier RPG compared to Bloodborne.

Bloodborne will have tighter and faster combat in general, with a lot less build options.

tbh the truly off-putting thing about souls fans is the "omg this is hardcore manly mans game" belief they labor under. The apathy the game has towards the player extends to the ways in which you can break the game and cheese it, there isn't anything in any of the games that I think truly requires raw skill and cannot be bypassed by some clever nonsense. One of the reasons I played dark souls 1 so many times was because I had so many different dumb ideas to try out for various scenarios and they usually ended up being both functional and funny.

During the hands-on I found myself frequently bored, even while those around me seemed rapturous with delight. The shooting felt floaty, and, while there’s some cool tech that lets you blow holes in the ground with grenades, there doesn’t appear to be anything on the ground to actually fight beyond the droids you anger by destroying the worlds you visit.

A big argument against No Man’s Sky is going to hinge on the $60 price point and I think in terms of the work that’s gone into it, it’s absolutely worth that price. Aesthetically and technically it’s a massive achievement, and if you like the idea of exploring an infinite galaxy at your own pace then I couldn’t recommend it enough. If you were expecting an actual game under all of that framework though, you might, like me, be entirely disappointed.
