What a weird thing to meltdown over. Complains NX's reveal is delayed while criticizing the Wii U as a rushed system then wants everyone to be fired.

This trailer, the entire concept of this game, makes me feel physically sick, and just so fucking angry.

How fucking dare anyone make a game like this about the First World War.

I don't know what's worse, the sick fucking emotionless, greedy cunts that would seriously exploit this horror of an industrialised massacre, or the ignorant, soulless bastards that will give them money and enjoy it.

The amount of "it doesn't affect me, so it isn't a problem" in this thread is honestly kind of alarming. As has been said before, as a user most of that stuff can be easy to ignore, as a developer that's a wholly different story.

There have been games which had transphobic trash via the Waifu Hunter curator front and center on their store page for days. And let's not even talk about the Baldur's Gate debacle. There have been voices of female indie game developers that are extremely wary of releasing their games on steam because that is likely to direct a bunch of toxic trash their way. (Let's not forget for example that Zoe Quinn began getting targeted by harassers in a major way when Depression Quest was greenlit and announced to be released on steam. That was way before the "start" of Gamergate. They just catalysed what was already there.)

PC gaming is absolutely toxic in places. Doesn't help that its biggest spokespeople are guys like TB. It's easy to say that this is just a small vocal group of toxic individuals, but experience has shown that not moderating that shit lets places become absolute cesspools. That shit takes over. It doesn't take a lot of poison to poison a well. And as soon as we have the first dev that isn't releasing on steam out of fear, that line has been crossed.

Examples for that dynamic are everywhere. Just look at the RPG Codex for instance. Click on one of their 1000 page SJW/Gamergate threads. Day ruined? Yup.

Wanna know why NeoGAF is the lauded kind of haven of non-toxicity that it (well... mostly at least) is? Just take a look at the graveyards of banned people in relevant threads.

At some point when Gamergate was in full swing the Giant Bomb community actually threatened to take a turn for the nasty. Fortunately they took a draconian stance on that and the worst you see now is people crying censorship when their shitty posts get removed.

I'm pretty convinced that this is the only way. You need to moderate and curate your spaces.

Someone actually posted this in praise of the mod staff while the Uncharted 4 review thread is sharpening the knifes for that female IGN reviewer who gave it an 8.8. Zero self awareness
