I understand why ethno-linguistic nation-states subsidize culture and even movies, if they didn't they'd just be drowning in the shite currently coming out of  New York City / London and Hollywood, and art has been a patronage-based field for swathes of the past anyway (you think people really liked depicting Jesus?), but lol at subsidizing gaming. I remember how shocked I was by reactions to Morsi's overthrow on gaf and the popular belief that a military coup was somehow a positive development for liberal democracy. Be so terrified of Islamists that you put your faith in the Egyptian military

The way I remembered it at the time was that people were happy that the military wasn't going crack down on the protesters but instead decided to go with the will of the people. I probably just filled in a lot of that in my head though as I was surprised by everything that happened after the revolution with the Morsi trial, IB being overthrown by the military, etc.

I suck at these games. I played like 15-20 hours of Pokemon diamond and could never find team galactic, and it turned me off Pokemon forever. These character seem interesting enough, but the gameplay and story is so confusing to me.

It's funny that you are using the enthusiast for their standard card. Big one, the Titan replacement, isn't coming until winter. Now all we have gotten is the mid tier. I'm not seeing why this is "enthusiast" at all.

Surely we've gone off the deep end if we're pretending that a 1070 is a mid-range card. Video cards are already an enthusiast class product--the mid tier of PC gaming is integrated graphics or one of those crappy nVidia mobile GPUs. The modal Steam user has 1GB of vram. The median PC gamer plays LoL, WoW, and Minecraft. People playing new release AAA games at 1440p or 4K or buying VR are like 5 standard deviations right of the mean.

But even among the dedicated GPU people, a 970 is beyond enthusiast overkill. Someone can get good, >console performance at 1080p with good effects (and for everything other than new-release AAA, do ultra and super-sampling) on a 780TI or a 970. A 960 is great. A 980 is beyond overkill. A Titan is beyond beyond overkill. And the 1070 is outperforming a Titan on some benchmarks and we're complaining that nVidia isn't offering enough mid-tier value because they're selling a reference card?

It looks like on Steam right now, running a 970 would put you in the top ~8% of gamers on Steam. So we're already self-selecting for people hardcore enough to PC game, to have a Steam account, etc. The biggest grower in the last month was the GeForce 750 TI--and after that the 730, the 960, and the 750. I'm on a 770 (someone else's used handmedown) and I get great performance at 1080p.

okay, well, then, the 1050 and 1060 don't exist yet so i guess the only video cards are the 1070 (which, as we've learned, is entry level at best) and the 1080 (which i guess is like borderline ready to play games like pong and battlezone). edit: the biggest pc game release of the year is overwatch. looks like a geforce 660 gets 60fps at 1080p on ultra. **** note during testing the 660 did get as low as 58 frames per second which is clearly unacceptable.

Let me save you time. If you didn't enjoy the base MMO-like gameplay of FFXII, FFXII: International won't fix this for you. It adds a level 1 or 99 "challenge" run, some battle trials to do (if you enjoyed the hunts), frameskipping (that was taken from it for ALL the PC ports of FF and patched into FF7/8's PC ports IIRC), added a "job system" to the license board which isn't needed if you want vanilla clones and doesn't really radically change up the gameplay.

Story will still be the same unless Square is actually taking the time to contact Matsuno and throw money at him to revise/finish it.

I think I might have one. I played Paper Mario and loved it. I got a copy of SUper Mario RPG because of all the good shit I heard about it. Putting it mildly, very mildly might I add, and these are my experiences, that piece of shit almost made me quit gaming entirely. Well it's not perfect, sure. But they broke shit out into categories, added a way to preview items, the crafting menu is much more clear and tells you if the merchant has the items you're missing. basically a streamlining and adding of UI features that were stupidly absent.
