Yeah this game isn't fun. Maybe if it had a fall release, but it's too hot for this nonsense. I would like a game based on this that is an RPG, though.

...have they even acknowledged that it exists yet? Do they have anyone talking about anything? Niantic seems to be such a fucking shitshow. Look, all I want to do is track down every fucking Psyduck in Atlanta, you pigfuckers.

I assume the 3 step issue is entirely intentional. Which is why they haven't fixed it. Not having to track the distance of every Pokemon to every player probably lightens a significant load on the servers.

Just started doing gyms nearby. Finding it super effective to place my flareon on a gym of my team that already has like a high level snorlax or whatever, and then training over and over with my lower cp vaporeon. Huge underdog bonus

Went to a baseball game with coworkers tonight, half of them spent most of the game on their phones catching pokemon and visiting the pokestops. Several of them even have fucking battery packs to charge their phones because of Pokemon Go.

I'm bored of the game after less than a week.

the Nintendo body count continues:
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-san-francisco-shooting-pokemon-go-20160807-snap-story.html
Quote
A 20-year-old man was shot and killed while playing ‘Pokemon Go’ near San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, a popular tourist destination along the waterfront, authorities said Sunday.
Quote
It’s unclear if the shooting was related to “Pokemon Go,” which has surged in popularity since it was released this summer.

The app uses a player’s smartphone camera and GPS technology to guide him to real locations to “collect” Pokemon, or “pocket monsters,” in real locations. Players point the camera and virtual characters appear against the real-world backdrop. Then players toss a virtual ball to capture that character.

The game has drawn crowds to parks, boardwalks and promenades in search of rare Pokemon. Players have found themselves targets of assailants or witnesses to crimes.

Last month, two men focusing on the smartphone game were robbed and carjacked in Northern California. In Fullerton, two former Marines helped nab a man wanted for attempted murder in Sonoma County. And in San Francisco, a brother and sister were robbed of their smartphones while playing “Pokemon Go.”

Pokemon GO Fest, an event in Chicago to catch rare Pokemon like Unown and legendaries, and that you had to pay money to buy tickets for (not to mention travel/lodging), was just cancelled after Niantic's servers fell over on the day-of. Again. After all the hooplah last year about how they had "finally solved the scaling issues." Everyone gets a refund and $100 worth of Pokecoins.

I knew it was gonna happen and I'm just sitting here LOLing.

Yeah, there's raids or whatever for the Legendaries. And if you get the Legendaries, you can't put them in the gym.

I want to get into the game, but the fact it requires a constant internet connection in addition to GPS turned me off. I get that they want to prevent cheating (so the always online makes sense) but holy shit it's a battery drain otherwise.

Legendary Pokemon (Lugia and Articuno) just got released today. Moltres and Zapdos are coming later when Teams Valor and Instinct don't fail so much.

For the last two(?) months Gyms got "raids" where during the daylight hours, they'd get an egg with a countdown which would hatch into a rare-ish Pokemon for players to team up and try catching for the next hour. Now they've added the chance for a legendary Pokemon to appear there sometimes instead.

Also until Monday at 8pm EST, there's these bonuses:

- Double Stardust
- Double Candy
- Double XP
- Increased Pokémon encounters
- Reduced hatching distance
- Reduced buddy distance

Also there's no clarification that Lugia and Articuno will stay available past Monday. I assumed so cause it'd be fucking stupid to give a two-day worldwide time limit to these things (and even less to Zapdos and Moltres, who at the earliest are coming tomorrow...)

But hey, Niantic! My suggestion would be to try to get them ASAP just in case. Gonna hit up the Common tomorrow for an hour or two before my Spider-Man showing for this reason.

Pokemon GO is the only game that justifies its place on a smartphone. Or rather, my smartphone anyways. Any other game that isn't tap-tap bullshit I'd rather play on a dedicated system.

GO using GPS, AR, constant data connection, local multiplayer stuff, etc. makes it a game that a game system couldn't do.

The IP doesn't hurt either.

The point being, there's no reason why you couldn't get Pokemon GO working on the Vita. Other than obvious platform holder issues.

Oh for sure. But I wasn't saying Pokemon GO was the first AR game evarr. Even the 3DS had limited AR tech demo things.

If you had a Vita 3G, it's certainly possible someone could have made a game like Pokemon GO. But that didn't happen.

I would also argue that GO really only works in a smartphone because of its immediacy, and beyond that, its reach. The reason Pokemon GO blew up was the social part, which wouldn't have worked on Vita because nobody has a Vita.

Both Vita 3G and smartphones have high-res touchscreens, GPS, and a constant data connection (though I would argue 4G is kind of the minimum for GO, see also: GO Fest.) But not only did a game like Pokemon GO not appear on Vita, even if it did it wouldn't have taken off. (There's also the separate argument that less than like 5% of Vitas ever sold were the 3G versions, as they were quickly killed off.)

I slagged on your example because it's lazy. "t@g" lets you put graffiti on things. I assume there's some light gamification. But the experience isn't nearly as deep or social as Pokemon GO. GO is light compared to "real" games, but it's at least a game. Compared to "t@g"? Yeah, I'm still gonna go with "Lol."

But please, keep insisting that Pokemon GO can be replicated on dedicated game systems. :ufup

Constant data connection (3G) is something what, 5% of Vitas had?

I guess for like 800 dedicated game systems out there it was technically possible. You got me. :badass

I guess that means that we should bring up the Virtual Boy whenever someone mentions Oculus then.

The point being, Pokemon GO justifies itself being played on my smartphone more than any other smartphone game - the vast majority of which are crap, and the remaining few are ones I would rather play on a real system.
