Played for about 5 hours.  Not too crazy about the level design right now because it seems very linear, but the quality-of-life changes are fucking great (it no longer takes a decade for Estus flasks to restore HP :lawd).

Also Curse-Rotted Greatwood is one of the most visually impressive bosses I've seen in a Souls game.

It's at least less linear than Bloodborne. BB pretty much had one path with extremely few branches. This has a specific order for the worlds you can visit (at least from what I can tell so far), but it seems like each world has a ton of different paths and little nooks to explore. So it's kinda like each world is a mini DS1. I like it.

I'm starting to get a lot of CTDs now at the first Lothric bonfire :(

Edit: Seems like the temporary fix everyone's using is turning the lighting effects down to Low. That solved my CTD issues.

I really wasn't feeling the assassin class early on, kept getting absolutely destroyed by most of the bosses and even regularly enemies were giving me a really hard time. Just felt really under powered and under armored. At least part of that was just getting used to playing as a different class than usual [my go to for DS1 and DS2 was classic sword and board paladin or similar]. But lately I've learned to love the estoc. There's just nothing quite like the feeling of blasting through an enemy's shield with a lunging stab and then unloading a barrage of jabs that leave them staggered until I finally run out of stamina. The main thing is you gotta be patient and look for the opening between attacks, then just unload until your stamina's gone. A lot of enemies can't break free at all because the attacks are too fast.

DS3 has some really great looking locations, especially with how you can almost always see Lothric castle looming in the background, but Irithyll of the Boreal Valley is the first location that's just completely blown me away the first time I saw it.

I was deciding between assassin and mercenary when I started because I wanted heavy dex for bow use
Decided on mercenary even though assassin started with a bow because there was too much points put into luck for my liking, think you start off with 14 vs 13 dex

Edit: nvm I got thief and assassin mixed up  :snoop

Mid rolls are functionally identical to fast rolls in this game, and they go up to 70% encumbrance. So, yes.

The Pontiff was the hardest boss yet for me. Felt like a Bloodborne boss because for me the shield was pointless. Rolling and praying was your best bet. Though I have found for a great deal of the bosses, staying close and in their face is your best bet.

The Pontiff was heart racing though. Anytime I instantly heard the noise of a fire sword swinging it was time to mash that roll button and hope for the best. I was so happy when I killed it.

Only for the next boss be the one in The Sky City. Who was also somewhat hard. But man getting there in itself was heart pounding. Kept going up, not knowing what the hell I would find. That's what I like most about these games. Exploring these worlds is  scary.

Isn't that axe to slow/ to heavy for such a fast boss?

Nah I got him next try. Playing with a heavy STR weapon is about picking your openings. I only have to get a few decent hits on a boss thanks to the huge damage I do.

It seems like the game doesn't load anything outside of Firelink when you warp in since you're presumably going to be popping back in and out. If you stand by the fog and wait a bit it'll load in the outside area and disappear.

Haven't played DS3 yet but from all the other I prefer BB combat and setting by far.  The cosmic horror/Lovecraft angle is amazing and the game is more accessible and straightforward while still being challenging.

I can understand that people prefer DS of course as it has more ways to play/builds.

The two series are very different in that regard Borys.

- BB being not that great as starved sfags are proclaiming... same'y environments, lack of classes, equipment variation and content

Most of this is not true. But then again you haven't played it  :)

Haha alright. I killed him the 4-1 way, though. Soul Arrow to the head then when he falls down a critical Great Club +6 strike. Repeat 7 times. Took me 6 Mana Flasks and 6 HP Flasks to do, though. Waaaaaaay too long fight (20+ minutes). I will try that shitty Storm sword in NG+.

Now onto the E3 boss.

I love this game. It shames DaS2 so much it isn't even funny.

I guess both DaS2 and Bloodborne need to be re-evaluated now:

- DaS2 being even more shit than before DaS3 launch... I despise myself for 1000/1000 DaS2.
- BB being not that great as starved sfags are proclaiming... same'y environments, lack of classes, equipment variation and content

Didn't play BB yet but I'd rank the Souls games:

Demon's > Dark Souls 3 >= Dark Souls 1 >>> Dark Souls 2

Did you play Sins and the DLC for 2?  I can not understand why people hate the game.

I haven't played Bloodborne but I can see the influence in design choice and adapting the series to a more mainstream audience. It's why I've actually given this one a chance I think because it's so accessible. I'm still in the Undead settlement, but I'm having a blast unwrapping this game. It's like a damn maze or puzzle!
