Political wise, I think Im in the same espectrum as I was before becoming a member. (thought this election cycle shake my confidence in the well judgement of people I knew, places like GAF didnt help).

But it changed my optimist opinion of online communities, as how hard it deterioreted. I saw something like this in a minor scale in other forum I was part of, but made me realize that was more complicated that "good or bad" posters. Self rightius users can be as bad as trolls.

Nah, if anything it kinda strengthened my viewpoints because it made me revisit old assumptions I had. Thinking maybe I had some logic or knowledge gap that contributed to why I was growing disconnected with some of the viewpoints and behavior. Which ultimately just made me recognize I wasn't crazy and GAF just went off the deep end and has no interest in swimming back.

Nah, you're crazy. It sucked about six months ago, but it's been comedy gold lately. Watching people righteously adopt positions and methods that they would (rightly) have decried just a short time ago is priceless. It's a reminder that behind all the preening and posturing, everyone on the political fringe is just a slightly different flavour of arsehole.

Since becoming a parody of itself, GAF has found true greatness. I'm just a bit bummed out that they are nearing the apex of their pointless infighting. Unless there is an influx of Native American posters, the oppression olympics are drawing to a close.

To be fair, before the ad overhaul I don't recall many people having issues. We never even had a thread for site ad improvement. At most you'd see the rare thread of something really small going awry. Everything about the new ad system is horrible. I don't mind ads here but not when they hijack my browser. It's silly.

I think GAF has both become a parody and gotten better. The worst elements got worse, but they no longer dominate the conversation.

Trump getting elected broke something in a lot of regulars, made them a whole lot worse in their tribalism and paranoia, but these people seem less relevant than they were before and you can almost go as far as ignore them (for non-comedy purposes). You have the same old characters no longer being able to bulldozer over the berniebros and they occupy themselves with building a dossier to send to the CIA. Yeah, they'll do their receipts shit, but I noticed no one really gives a fuck besides those who already hate the guy who was speaking out of turn. It is comedy gold. PoliGAF has lost a lot of ground in OT and OT has lost ground in Gaming. Bish no longer being a mod by itself is a big change to the atmosphere.

The only thing is that it has become a worse news source, as something like 33% of Trump threads end up being "fake news" (grossly misreported, like the one about him creating a holiday being some fascist thing) that they just blindly accept, but I don't know if you can say that's a GAF thing.

I think the relevant difference with the OG versions wasn't just raw TF numbers, but rather the whole GDDR5 vs shitty DDR3+ESRAM. I don't think it's a surprise MS is dropping it.
