Yeah, but says who? You?
Says the nature of the group. Too much a militant tone. Too much stuck in social justice rather than action. Being someone's political tool won't reduce suicide numbers.
My statement was that the community/lobby is most damaging. That doesn't mean it's the most physically violent thing to happen to a trans person, but that the problems present for a group of people may come second to the wants of a social machine.
Just in a terrible attempt to illustrate this: You're giving me the argument that I shouldn't speak for a marginalized group or share my view in this manner because of some group you stick me in. That idea itself comes from the very idealogy that is too prevalent in the trans community and lobby, and one I feel hurts trans people in the long run.
Human beings are social creatures. We advance and learn and shape the world by hearing what other people have to say. If I am correct then my not speaking upon this ends up hurting those very marginalized creatures. To think that we should just shutup when we have concern because of some cultural class stratification is harmful. Eventually, we all hear something from someone we are sure can't possibly understand that ends up being useful to us.
I think there's a few parts to this.
Stereotyping is not bad. Humans have to stereotype or we could't function. We have to have assumptions about people, events, objects, or else we would never be able to make a decision based on experiences.
That being said, not every individual in a marginalized community represents the whole community. When one says Fred Phelps did not represent Christianity, it's the same way that a goofy 17 year old on Tumblr doesn't represent everyone in the transgender community. It's not necessarily fair to judge the whole upon the most annoying or militant. You can't stereotype based upon the noisy outliers only.
So I think it isn't fair to say "the most damaging thing for transgendered people may be the trans community and lobby," when you're basing it on something you don't have that much deep insight in.
I understand your argument about me sticking you in a group. I mean, maybe
you're the outlier of
your group?

Maybe *I* am. But you have to admit that a marginalized group is classified as marginalized for a reason. We can't be completely privy to their experiences
if we are not part of the group.
