on the surface that sounds good but there is probably a pandora's box of lawsuits and costs in trying to do that because in this case its obvious but future cases if someone gets offended about something much much less. Artists and writers would demand more secure contracts.

Minor off topic (this thread is for unproductive shitposting only  ) point but obviously I'm using "the artist" out of ease of comprehension for everyone and because AFAIK comics drawing workers generally get extended some of the privileges you find for creators /artists / what have you (regardless of the merit of such a label for comics or whatever X work is your pet peeve). Us normal working stiffs don't get jolly little things like residuals but in essence I would also object to an employee getting punished beyond termination for wrongthink.

It's true though that in the real labor world I wouldn't even bat an eye at the suggestion of scrapping bad work entirely and replace it with good one by another worker (especially if it contained a possible antisemitic-fueled bit).

It's not unreasonable punishment beyond termination? When you work with someone else's stuff you have a duty of care. Casually inserting religious supremacist messaging in an IP meant for worldwide consumption is anything but fulfilling your duty of care. Marvel was damaged by this, would it be more palatable if they just sued the pants off of him in court instead?

On a whim : yeah maybe ? Though it's all very theorical, I'd guess Marvel would just retouch the images to erase the inserted bits if they have the contractual ability to dos so or just vault the offending issue.

I guess my point is that the contracted work this drawer/penciller/artist provided is perfectly serviceable save for a couple a panels -though I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out he slipped more of that stuff-. Erasing it just to wiggle out of any contractual obligations seems pretty spiteful to me. But I guess it depends how interlinked you think all of this things are.
