Zima, at least the new version, tastes more like Sochu + Soda than Smirnoff Ice. Not very bold in its taste, can taste the rice undertones.

Better than IPA tho.. IPA is horse shit.. first off fuck overly hoppy shit in general but this was made specifically to prevent beer from going bad under intense heat, it was a means to an end and now all these smoothbrains go wild for the shit and treat it as a delicacy

Zima's only bottled and sold in Japan now, isn't it? I know the pink one is exclusive to the region. It's soda pop with alcohol.

IPA haters are tired lame-oids. The craft beer boom originated from hoppy brews, because it tastes so different from the mainstream garbage out there like Bud or Coors.

So what if there are ten times as many IPAs available as other styles, but brown ale, belgian wild yeast blondes, and stouts are still wildly more plentiful than at any other time in history. Appreciate what you've got instead of bitching that some other style is over-represented.

Lately I’ve been sticking to normal pale ales and pilsners.  Easier to drink.

Pale Ales are my favorite (Maine Beer Company's Peeper Ale ), also enjoy the session IPAs (Carton Boat, Founder's All Day, etc) a bit more than straight-up IPAs. Though I do like some IPAs as well, as long as they're not just hop bombs and actually have some flavor/character.

It suddenly occurred to me over the weekend what a great value Switch is when you really think about it.

Just as recently as the previous generation if you were so inclined to buy both a portable and home console you were looking at spending right around $500. From the start Switch is less than that.

Then when you consider that once virtual console comes you will be able to skip owning all of that hardware saving you again potentially hundreds of dollars.

And to top it off, once media apps come the Switch could potentially become your go-to tablet eliminating another need for a separate device.

So I guess my point is that once the full functionality of Switch arrives the versatility and functionality that we will have is going to be incredible.

Just noticed that one of my notebooks still had the "China saves Hollywood" thread from a week or two ago open, and some dude honestly mentioned fucking Resident Evil as an example - a German production based on a Japanese video game series with a British director and a French lead actress. There's nothing "Hollywood" about Resident Evil. Constantin and Studio Babelsberg are German, Village Roadshow is Australian, Wingnut is from New Zealand, Europa Corp is French, Legendary Pictures is Chinese, and Sony Pictures is obviously Japanese. Even the big Marvel movies are usually German-American or Chinese-American productions, and that's Disney garbage and as American as it gets. There really is no "Hollywood" anymore. And yet, even though GAF by and large claims to hate the US, the "America Stronk" shit was rampant and ridiculous in this thread. More so than in many threads where it would be kinda warranted. Schizophrenia?

EDIT: Seems to be a common misconception. I just rewatched Lord of War, and wanted to check out some stuff on IMDB afterwards. And the reviews had a lot of "I'm surprised Hollywood made this movie", even though Lord of War isn't really a Hollywood production, either. Yes, it stars Nicolas Cage, Jared Leto and Ethan Hawke, but no Hollywood studio wanted to touch the material, so VIP (German) and Ascendant (German-American - yes, that's the former company of Chris Roberts and Ortwin Freyermuth, the Star Citizen guys) did. It's kinda funny, because "German" movies are by and large cheap garbage, funded with taxpayer money, and yet a ton of big "Hollywood" movies are actually German as well, but produced by completely different companies and people.

Most of the companies you mention with regards to Resident Evil still have offices over there. nd wile they may be owned by a variety of multinationals, the "majors" still form an homogeneous group exhibiting industry trends and controlling considerable means throughout the world with regards to production, distribution and editing. That's not to say that I disagree with the overall sentiment.

(Also I'm not 100% certain but Milla Jovovich doesn't seem to have the French nationality though Besson certainly contributed to her career and she probably spent some time here. AFAIK, she doesn't speak French fluently at all.)

I'm not too surprised you saw a lot of "America Stronk" sentiment though. Firstly because there may be little overlap between self-loathing posters and those ? Anyway it's pretty common as a reaction on GAF when push come to shove. Notably with issues of foreign policy (I love to link here PoliGAFfers casually wondering why the US don't just engineer a coup in whatever faraway land not acting as desired) and prospective military engagements (often underestimating the cost or consequences or overrating US immunity to consequences).

Film-making for the US has been elevated to the same as wine for the French, futbal for Brazil or high end electronics for Japan : A lot of people probably take discussion on the matter as a slight to their very identity so they tend to lash out a bit.

I kinda agree with your last sentence, how movie making is to the US what wine is to the French, and I get that, but I'm not so sure the quoted part is still really true. Yes, a lot of companies have offices in LA, and a lot of individuals have at least PO boxes in Hollywood, but does that really matter in the end these days? Like when Wanda Group/ Legendary did another Bayformers movie because that shit sells in China? I don't think they give a fuck outside of the potential promotional value. And they're the new kid on the block. German companies producing "Hollywood" movies has been a thing for decades. Initially, it was just German financing, a tax evasion scheme, known in Hollywood as "stupid German money" (eg Intermedia and VIP). But the tax laws were changed, and the movies have to actually be produced in Germany now, with German crews and shit. And so they are. And from what I hear, a lot of the big international production deals are signed in Cannes and Berlin these days.

Yes. Also, while The Force Awakens (a shit movie in my opinion, as it was essentially just an inferior remake of episode IV) was actually really a pure US production, it was produced in the UK with British lead actors.

Though that one actually made me think. GAF loves to parrot "we need more female leads", "we need more black leads". But when it happens, they're usually neither from the US nor oppressed. Not that I necessarily disagree with the sentiment, it just seems kinda strange that nobody points it out in those cases...

Interesting. While I think words have a lot of power, it's all about context at the end of the day. And a lot of things get lost in translation, probably. I believe the direct German translation for "taco" is "Schwuchtel", which is almost always used as a slur, but doesn't have to be. Folks usually realize that it can have a very specific meaning ("outwardly gay" instead of just "gay") and are usually not mad if you use the term in the correct, friendly or neutral context, or jokingly but affectionate. Then again, I had enough of the "you're German, you're a Nazi" jokes to last me a lifetime, and I roll my eyes really hard every time I hear them these days. Unless it's an obvious joke/ sarcasm by somebody who knows me. So I believe I get it. Not the censorship, but the idea behind it.

neat, i initially didn't like this that much but then thinking back on various scenes found them memorable and then rewatched it after enough of this and it's a fun little movie and comedic, i think it's not supposed to really have the message you would think it does which probably is what gets those reactions, it almost always subverts every trope you'd expect, even the ending outright explains how it's going to and you'll deal with it because what are you going to do about it? and that's that



though it still irks that they talk about the Iran-Iraq War in the past tense during a scene that's supposed to take place in the middle of it, almost ruins Nicolas Cage's entire career imo, you'd think he wouldn't let something like that past him but yet there it is
