Reasons why CONSOLES are BETTER than PCs according to the VIDEO GAME ENTHUSIAST board NEOGAF.COM

1. no cheating on consoles

2. no piracy on consoles

3. no keyboard/mouse superiority on consoles everyone is on a level playing field
3b. (keyboard and mouse are NOT superior to controllers)
3c. (but keyboard and mouse should not be used on consoles because it might give some an unfair advantage)

4. all the best games are on consoles, specifically the PlayStation 4.
4b. you can't play NAUGHTY GODZ games on PC.
4c. seriously I haven't even seen a PC game that looks as good as Uncharted 4.

5. able to just sit down on your comfy couch and play a game, there's no tweaking settings for hours
5b. (not to mention all the updates that appear on PC, last time I tried to use Steam I had to download an update for 63 games!)

6. games are full priced on consoles and the money goes to the DEVS not to GABE!
6a. (yes, Sony takes a cut but that is so they can provide servers and maintaining their ecosystem not to make someone richer)

7. too many options on PC, it's confusing. I feel comfortable letting @yosp curate the games he wants me to play on his system.

I think it's fairly hysterical to ask for Sony and Microsoft to "ban KB+M support" (can they even do that ?) on their machines wholesale just to accomodate the feelings of a fraction of manchildren playing make.believe. murder simulators which are a fraction of the software in the library in the name of a fair "competition" with no real world importance. Like yeah, I get the issue but surely we can try to think of more effective solutions to adress it if needed ?

from the two games mentioned in that post, siege probably doesn't give you a huge advantage because the movement is slow enough already, especially with iron sights and they probably give controllers auto-aim, but overwatch for some of the heroes it would, especially someone like mei and her fucking icepick nail gun

Stick vs pad vs hitbox depends on the game for fgs. With a game like Street Fighter and other 2d games I'd say stick is an advantage but in a game like Tekken, which has neutral as an input, I'd say pad is easier.

Doing basic movement with stick requires skill in a game like Tekken. Much, much easier on pad.



Unless you play a non-sway character of course. You can get it up to par vs pad with amazing execution but it takes actual hard work.

What about hitbox

I have no experience with them, but I expect their usefulness to differ from game to game*,**. However, I'm not sure if using one will give you a massive edge in general, given the nature of fighting games. Maybe a hitbox makes it easier, or more comfortable to do certain motions, but a move isn't going to come out faster or a combo only be possible to do using a hitbox, right?

With shooters, it's different. Everything you do while aiming is more diffcult to do using a controller, because you're quite literally driving the crosshairs around the screen. Speed and accuracy is simply incomparable to mouse aiming. This isn't even taking shooting while moving or fine adjustments into account. There's a reason even single player FPS on console have generous auto-aim on by default.

Which btw, would be one way to 'even' the playing field if KBM and controller are allowed to compete. Though then it becomes a balancing act of not giving controllers too generous auto-aim, which can tilt things in their favour in certain situations. Long range, for instance. You might not see the guy, but your crosshair snapped onto something, so pull the trigger...

Basically, competitvely, pad gives you an edge. You're going to need to work to do basic movement with a stick. Sure, kbm has an edge on consoles, but all this means is that you need to work harder. The input for korean backdash, b neutral b, db, b neutral b, db, b. It's much easier to do this with pad. Why? Because pad has no neutral. To do neutral with pad all you need to do is lift your finger up. With stick you need to wait for the stick to return to neutral via the spring. And this is to do a basic movement action. By all definitions, pad could be considered "cheating" and no one bitches. We just put in work.

I mean the effective solution in the past for disabled players has been/still is accepted.

 There are still tons of modded controllers still on the market specifically targeted to many disabilities including quadriplegics.

 I guess what I find disingenuous (in general with people in those threads) is the idea that this one specific type of controller (though there are still similar types on the market) by a specific company is inhibiting any disabled players from playing.

 The Xim only gained substancial popularity this gen by pro level players and  tryhards for accurately emulating kb+m.

 I have a hard time believing there's much genuine pushback from a group of specifically disabled individuals that were able to play this gen because of one specific controller, when so many alternatives and disability-friendly devices have continued to exist on the market for over a decade.

I mean we're getting pretty far down the rabbit hole of specifics here and I don't think it's the real issue. I believe there's at least one person in the thread claiming he/she is disabled and that XIM helped him/her enjoy games so it's not just some hypothetical strawman. Putting aside the question of disability, being able to plugin a kb+m seems like a net positive to me for a potential variety of uses, especially as consoles drift farther and farther away from plug-and-play mentality.

Calling for platform-holders to outright ban entire functionalities to fix the issue in being pwned in a subset of games is pretty ludicrous. It'd seem more sensical to pursue the publishers and devs for in-software solutions if at all possible and where needed.
