I mean, presumably, these 19 people had already tried the approved methods of treatment. Not done nothing for years and then decided to decamp to an island nation to get injected by a dude who admits he can't do official testing and whose partner in the operation has already died from it not working (or being improved) fast enough.
At worst, for the movement, we're going to end up with another Stan Jones who turned himself blue from taking home-made colloidal silver. (Not that homeopathic shit Alex Jones sells which is basically just water.) And the Libertarians didn't kick him out of the party even though he hates gays and immigrants. Oh and he was fucking blue.
Only unlike Stan Jones, Peter Thiel has actually done quite a bit of large scale good admist all the garbage he's done. Just to pick an example everyone can agree on (except NeoGAF.com probably) he makes yearly large donations to the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Human Rights Foundation. He's donated millions to efforts against various anti-lgbt legislation/initiatives both here and abroad. And to use examples that lots will find abhorrent on both ends. For every dumb thing like throw money away on Trump or Meg Whitman or Carly Fiorina or the Paul family's racket, he's favorably invested in all kinds of now well known start ups without always expecting a return like many investors. (And some, like Facebook, he has benefited even more massively from and tried to roll over as more cash available to others rather than keep...even in that case, farther back, the then thefacebook failed to meet the terms of his original investment and he could have potentially killed it to get his money back and he instead waived it by considering the terms to have been met. Okay, bad example maybe.)
And most importantly, he helped get Thank You for Smoking adapted.
Then again, he's also going to get us all killed by a hostile AI if he continues to get the return on investment he has so far.
