I'd think PSP was definitely "killed" by piracy. the system lasted for a long time ofc, but i remember software sales were very low for most of the system's life.

As a former PSP dev I don't really agree. Sony didn't market the device or support it much after its first year, they just switched over to PS3 and did nothing to support developers. Plus they intentionally crippled the device from the start, the memory cards were stupid expensive for far too long, and it only had 1 stick. Games like the GTA ones, and the God of War games still sold, despite being pirates to hell and back.

Then they made a ton of the same mistakes with the Vita.

Sony is'nt good at supporting multiple systems or spin-off systems. With both the PSP and Vita you got kind of B level support. It's the same with VR. Not saying they don't throw good games at the system, but nothing that dosen't feel like an after thought to thier primary console focus. Uncharterd spin-off, God of War spin-off, whatever. Its kind of lame. While I'm no Nintendo fan, things like a main line Pokemon game feel like pretty big reasons to own a Nintendo handheld. A lot of the PSp/Vita library while maybe good is easily skip able.

I mean PSP was lucky in that it did well in Japan so for me things like Crisis Core and so on still happen. But take away Square's support and Capcom and so on, and it's mostly niche titles with limited appeal.

Piracy probably didn't kill any console. Apart from the PS4, piracy was rampant on pretty much all of the most successful consoles, beginning with the PS1. PS1, PS2, WII, DS, 3DS, Switch. All sold/sell fantastic and have great software attach ratio's. On the other it wasn't much of a problem at least in the first couple of years on consoles like the Gamecube, PS3 or XBone. If your games or business modells aren't there, your console will flop. I realize that's not a perfect logical argument but still the correlation seems to be minimal.

That's not to say piracy isn't a problem but I think it's more for publishers of certain games than for the console manufacturer at large.

Yes, piracy can absolutely be lethal for small developers who create niche titles.

Yeah... shit. I worked on PSP and PSVR and have some... very similar feelings to me.

Edit: Smash Tennis is that game the special courts yes? Always was interested in that game, only read about it in magazines. Still, with Super Tennis on there not exactly the game this service needs. I guess Pop N Twinbee is okay for a couple of twenty minutes.

Pokemon Home is out, it's quite broken at the moment, wonder trade boxes don't work, room trades do not work, GTS people just wanting legendary for a litten or something equally as dumb.

You can do mass delete on mons on it though so if you're breeding for 6iv or shiny mons that's pretty nice, can only do 3ds or switch transfers atm, so if you have pogo mons you need to move them to let's go first.

Once it settles and all features are in should be pretty cool. Don't know why it costs so much though...

Hatsune Miku Project DIVA MEGA39's is out.  Seems to pretty much be Colorful/Future Tone on Switch.  Only tried it in handheld mode so far and it's pretty responsive.  The graphics look about the same, but resolution has clearly taken a hit.  Pretty sure the background stuff is sub-720P.

Haven't really paid attention to it, but I caught part of the Mega39's release stream this morning and they were playing a mode where you control sliding bars with the joycons.

Seems cool, I'll definitely get it when it comes out in Murica.

Yeah, there's a new 'waggle' mode with the joycons that I didn't check out yet.  They apparently made this game with handheld play in mind but should still be just fine on a TV.

Double Dragon
Double Dragon II: The Revenge
Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones
Renegade
Super Dodge Ball
River City Ransom
Crash’n the Boys Street Challenge
Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-kun*
Nekketsu High School Dodgeball Club*
Downtown Nekketsu Story*
Nekketsu High School Dodgeball Club – Soccer Story*
Downtown Nekketsu March Super-Awesome Field Day!*
Downtown Special Kunio-kun’s Historical Period Drama!*

Surprise! Nekketsu New Records! The Distant Gold Medal*
Nekketsu Fighting Legend*
Kunio-kun’s Nekketsu Soccer League*

This is fuckin nuts. I never thought these would drop in English because the logistics of translating old Famicom ROMs can be a nightmare. Will buy this just to support these maniacs.

What games are on SNES? Would be curious if they run on SNES Classic - or the NES Classic for the NES games

Do you guys remember online trading with the gamecube animal crossing though?

It was some 1800's shit

You needed their name
You needed their town name
You went to the post office
You were given a long (24 digit?) alphanumeric code
You went to the online forum and PMed them the code
They gave you their code
You gave the code to the post office
At some point the package would be delivered

Pokemon in 2020
add friend does nothing
make random code pray someone else in the whole world isn't also using that specific trading code
swap league cards does pretty much nothing apart from stamps
pokemon home, another friend request is required
friend trades require you to be next to each other to do
room trades you have to use three or more people for it to work
GTS if your friend adds a mon with specific details you have to trade, it'll still take a good few hours for it to show, someone else could also yoink the trade

absolute mess.

So this Reddit post from earlier this week was right on the money as far as AC was confirmed.

Quote
I know 9 times out of 10 this shit’s fake but all I can do is offer you my word that my source is legit.

An old HS classmate has work involved with Nintendo - don’t want to divulge much more than that, but their level of internal knowledge is significant. I was in their city for work over the weekend and we caught up over some beers on Saturday night.

What I’ve been told is that an Animal Crossing Direct will be announced tomorrow morning and will take place Thursday. It’ll delve more into how shops come to the island, it’s somewhat similar to New Leaf’s system, but deeper and gives more room for the player to personalize their island.

A general Direct will come in the second week of March. Metroid Prime 4 will be in it which is no surprise really, but they’ll also finally showcase Pikmin 4, to come out during the holiday this year. There were others mentioned but those two stuck out as they got me particularly excited. Drank too much probably.

Again, take this as you will, but what he was telling me seemed legit and he most certainly is in a position to know this stuff.

Meh If true. MP4 is probably 2 years away at minimum and Pikmin v4 isn't exactly exiting as a holiday game.
