Skyward Sword is a weird game. The time mechanic in the desert sea is something you could create an entire Zelda game around.
What completely ruined it was the ridiculous handholding. When you would enter a room Fi would just spell out what you needed to do.
At some point I was boxed in a room and it seemed like an interesting puzzle would start and then Fi appeared: "Look master, a hole in the ceiling, I bet you could USE AN ARROW".
The music was simply gorgeous and they set-up the characters including Link and Zelda really well. And then... they don't do anything with it.
You have these cool birds that you can fly around on but only to travel from A to B and there's only two sequences of gameplay that involves them.
Skyward Sword felt like playing a checklist and once in a while you'd run into something incredible like the Eastern Clistern. Which was a great dungeon with a sort of underworld metaphor in it too.
The game would evoke Majora's Mask creepiness and then revert to generic tree landscape. The style worked to a degree but always looked better in screenshots and at a distance than it did in motion.
Up close everything just looked really basic. Not to mention the HUD covered a big part of your screen at all times

The padding was just insane. At some point you feel like you're playing a Rare game without the fitting music due to the shit you have to collect. Plus the animations when you collect something repeat over and over and over again.
Somehow it was still a good and fun game but it just felt so tedious that overall you'd be glad when it was over.
It was not worth the 5 year wait since the remarkable Twilight Princess... at all.
I wonder how they would handle a re release. Would they keep the game as is and just give it the HD make-over?
I mean, not many people have really fond memories of Skyward Sword like they have of OOT... or will they go the extra mile to 'fix' it and do a full reimagining of Skyward Sword?
