Honestly, I’d have to see photos of his body hanging to even start to believe that he was able to kill himself.

You can check the celebrity harassment apocalypse thread. Off the top of my head, stanning for Chris Hardwick and Aziz Ansari.

Yep, and just two weeks ago there was a prior suicide attempt:

Epstein, who is being held in Metropolitan Correctional Center as he awaits his trial for conspiracy and sex trafficking, was found semi-conscious with marks on his neck, two sources told News 4.

Nice thing about Epstein-centered conspiracies is the people who are getting their name dragged through the mud are the ones who co-signed on him. "Help, I'm being unfairly smeared as a pedophile and predator, when all I did was befriend and use my social capital to rehabilitate a pedophile and predator!" The game's the game, man.

edit: if there were Epstein truthers going in the other direction, now that would be wild. But he didn't start off with a bunch of hardcore fans the way Cosby and Paterno did, so I don't expect that.

I remember Philip Markoff had to cut his wrists and empty his blood into plastic bags hidden underneath bedsheets while he faked sleeping because his hanging attempts ended him up in suicide watch.  I feel like hangings on suicide watch are almost impossible - anyone know of any?  What kind of incompetence would allow a lapse in security for this super high profile guy, in lieu of a multi-million dollar court case...after he already attempted the same exact method?    That's fucked.

How many of them hung themselves?

edit:

Quote
Inmates placed on suicide precautions are frequently housed in unsafe cells containing protrusions
(i.e., anchoring devices) that could be used to commit suicide by hanging (Hayes 2005; National
Commission on Correctional Health Care 2008).
Quote
Two-thirds (67.9 percent) of respondents reported that they did not maintain a protocol by which
suicidal inmates would be assigned to a safe, suicide-resistant, and protrusion-free cell (see
table 40). No significant differences were found between holding and detention facilities in
regard to the safe housing of suicidal inmates

That would hardly be a surprise given the way prisons are run and the attitudes of law enforcement in general to criminals, but Epstein definitely wasn't the average inmate by any means.

It will be interesting to see* what the suicide watch protocol was.   I don't really expect prisons to be able to change the protocol in the case that the prisoner is famous, but I do expect more diligence.

*this conspiratorial vocabulary fits like a cozy blanket.  I can see why people use it.

You probably don't even get in trouble as a suicide-watch guard if someone dies.

But man, disappointing. First those two Canadian kids, now Epstein. The world deserved answers.

About as disappointing when we find out the guard did it for 10 grand or for a semi-new truck.

First those two Canadian kids, ... The world deserved answers.

What now?   There are conspiracies regarding those two murders?  Or do you mean answer why they did the murdering?

This is a pretty big one. Like, even if you're not predisposed to buy into large-scale conspiracy stuff you gotta side-eye this one.

That's why it makes good fodder. There isn t any potential scenario you could paint that wouldn't be too outlandish due to how long the dude operated and who he ran with.

That being said, his suicide didn't come out of nowhere
This was clearly a dude that wanted to kill himself.

Be a shame if he was accidentally discharged from suicide watch and was sent back to his old cell with fresh sheets.

Be a real shame if a paperwork mixup resulted in that happening.

I dont even remover Who Chris hardwick is. I feel good about Aziz and Franken though.

Like magnus, they did nothing wrong.

Aziz was technically being a dogood Cheney, but imo, that whole situation was just like when that boy wrote an article about that “I’m not a witch” Christine whatever chick from Delaware in 2010 just to tell everyone she had a hairy pussy.

Like, it was a bad date but not sexual harassment or rape or assault.

Edit: oh yeah, Chris Hardwick. Another one where they did the investigation and said Sis crazy.

And if anyone thinks Al Franken would still be resigning if he had full due process, I think your full of it. Not one of those allegations has stood up to be anything more than a misunderstanding under scrutiny.

I always roll my eyes at the "just a bad date" defense. If it was just a bad date then that means it's something that happens all the time and is totally normal and that's just fucking depressing. That means when women go on bad dates and probably they often do, they always get pressured into sucking dick, getting naked, being groped, getting fingers stuck down their throats, followed around, having to lock themselves in bathrooms etc etc. It was a shitty and oppressive first encounter at a strange man's apartment, not something that should be normalized as a "bad date". A bad date should leave someone feeling like they wasted their time, not like they were violated.

Anyone who acts like that towards another person and justifies it by saying "hurr durr it was just a bad date" is a total scumbag and probably shouldn't be going on dates at all. And miss me with the "but she complained about the choice of wine so clearly she is just being overdramatic about everything else" bs. Aziz is a pathetic creep.

Yes, women get pressured into sex all the time on dates.

I’m not sure what world you live on that you think this

At some point, people need to realize that the chick has agency, and wasn’t held hostage.  She has the ability to say no, she has the ability to not go to a guys apartment on the first date, and could have slapped him and walked out at any moment... or just walked out. She never really said no. Even by her own account until right before she left. And once she firnly said no, he basically called her an Uber and she left.

Was he being shitty? Yes.  Did she also execute terrible judgment? Yes. Did he do anything that deserved any special attention? No.

If it wasn’t just a bad date... what would you call it? Was it sexual assault? Was it attempted rape? Was it rape?

Should Aziz Ansari be charged with a crime? Because it not... then it’s just a bad date. Maybe it’s an extra double plus super bad date... but I’m not sure what other label you can stick on it.
