That sounds like an exceptionally galaxy brain way of restricting supply. OPEC was recently at an eight years low in production (per Reuters) and Saudis have never been shy on adjusting output in public. If you wanted to make bank that way you'd hit another country production capacity to keep your sales constant at a higher price instead of paying for millions in repairs.

I wasn't being entirely serious, but you need to take into consideration that they also hate Iran, so it would be a win-win for Saudi Arabia if this led to war. A couple of Million to fix this mean nothing when you gain Billions.
And as recent events have shown, lots of people in high positions are not exactly smart. Many things I would have considered bad writing in a cheap TV show have actually happened in reality in the past 4 years. We live in strange times.

I'd say there's already a lot of avenues to escalate to a war with Iran if that was really what the USA wanted to do, which is really the crucial point in that line of reasoning. The current Israeli asinine politics could probably soon provide more if Iranian proxies feel they need to push back. It's all pointless estimates but I don't think the cost analysis on that (or those attacks on their oil infrastructure) is as lopsided as you surmise.

But sure, stupidity is never off the table.

Edit: I don’t think anyone is confused about how the math works, but some suspect that Bernie won 70+% of the vote from the thousands of members but “lost” the endorsement because of the 100% vote from the dozen board memebers for warren and think the group is hiding that by not showing the tallies.

That said, endorsements are dumb anyway,
