Pete called himself a middle class veteran?

foh, asshole.

At least bernie never pretends to be middle class when he's talking about helping them.

As a veteran myself, his military record is incredibly weird.

1) he’s a direct commission, meaning he never went to OCS, ROTC, a military academy, or even the fucking knife and for school that doctors and lawyers go to. It’s intended for people with special skills that the military needs ASAP, but in practice  is usually reserved for extremely privileged people with connections, and is often kind of a scam. Other well-known direct commissions are Hunter Biden when he was like 35 and Reince Priebus after he was White House chief of staff.

2) claims to be an intel officer, but there’s no evidence he actually went to intel school.

Ultimately, the whole thing stinks of him just being able to finagle his political connections to get into the military to get a checkbox on his resume, then went to Iraq for 5 months and like drove people around a bit, without doing any real military work.

And hopefully it stays that way, right?

For decades there actually used to be a propaganda ban in the U.S., but it only applied to government broadcasting and it was repealed in 2013.

The Billion-Dollar Disinformation Campaign to Reelect the President
How new technologies and techniques pioneered by dictators will shape the 2020 election

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/03/the-2020-disinformation-war/605530/

Excellent article about Trump's ongoing technological disinformation campaign (well, not his personally, he's a moron, but he has some capable, unscrupulous propagandists). Explains why it's impossible to reach Trumpists from the outside.
Whichever percentage of Americans resides inside the bubble is lost, and there are no rules or laws in place to prevent it.

Everything the Democrats are doing is amateur hour in comparison.

Do moderate dems realize that Sanders getting a plurality of the delegates but losing a brokered convention is the nightmare scenario for November?

For decades there actually used to be a propaganda ban in the U.S., but it only applied to go government broadcasting and it was repealed in 2013.
It only applied to the parts of the State Department that did public diplomacy and accomplished nothing of value. The ONDCP not only spent over $1 billion on direct propaganda advertising to Americans but paid to have propaganda placed in the plots of TV shows. In any case, these are examples of the government engaged in propaganda. The entire article is almost entirely about private entities. And goes exactly where expected as the "solution", the desire to eliminate 230 of the CDA, the safe harbor. In order to create a DMCA silencing process writ large for every possible piece of content a website could see posted on it. Which, not ironically, would not harm the Twitter/Facebook/Google's complained about in the article as much as smaller websites not backed by gigantic corporations flush with cash and legal departments.

God no, that'd be even worse. The Fairness Doctrine is absurd on its face. The idea of applying it to the internet would be even more insane.

Then again, we wouldn't have monsters like Bernie Sanders able to steal the nominations of parties he's never belonged to with it preventing him from getting free airtime at least. Just sane pro-American moderates like Amy for America and Bloomberg. :aah

It's the worst possible outcome and will result in us being crushed.

It might not be too bad if Bernie enters with a strong plurality and then easily wins the nomination, or perhaps if some other Democrat wins the plurality.

The Bloomberg/Buttigieg ticket is still on track to have a majority of the delegates, especially with the backing of Amy for America, Biden, Warren, etc. according to 538's model. (Warren backing Sanders does not change this.)

They're already preparing the ground. There have been tens of articles pointing out that the "moderates" are winning a majority of the vote in Iowa and NH. And winning big over just Sanders' cult. Bloomberg has yet to dump on him like he's planning. Steyer is about to legitimately get into this race if Nevada and SC polls are any indication.

You want to compel ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR etc. to try to pretend to be less biased?

I mean, okay, I don't agree on principle, but just on game theory here you seem to be shooting yourself in your own loony leftist foot.

Surely you realize that depicting reality isn't leftism? For the most part it's right wing media that distorts facts, sometimes beyond recognition (aka lying) and spreads insane conspiracy "theories" (especially in the U.S., where it has reached comical levels)?

"Reality has a well-known liberal bias."

And you think CNN and MSNBC and the various air broadcast ones would be just hunky dory?  Like somehow they're not actually "fake news?"  They tell you what you want to hear and they shamefully parrot the same narratives to push agendas.

Quote
In reference to changes in the channel's evening programming, senior vice president of NBC News Phil Griffin said that "It happened naturally. There isn't a dogma we're putting through. There is a 'Go for it.'"

They're just "going for it" man.

Reagan was a fucking disaster.

The FCC only has jurisdiction over broadcast media. It has no jurisdiction over privately owned networks (like cable, satellite, etc).

So, if you think bringing back the fairness doctrine is somehow going to temper  Fox News, CBN or other right wing outlets, then you'd be wrong.

Those arguments against UBI sounded a lot like the arguments that minimum wage would be offset by inflation in some 1:1 fashion.

But yeah, James is right and the union is probably just looking out for the institutional strength that comes from being the healthcare bargainer.

If Sanders miraculously passed his whole agenda it would be amazing for unions.

Sad!

I interpret this as Hillary was so unpopular, tha even 10% of centrist democrats preferred Soviet style communism to having her as President.
