The potential for conflict between Biden and Harris advisers was resolved in another way, at least for now: Mr. Biden and his advisers made plain to Ms. Harris that they expected to have the same understanding with respect to staff hiring that Mr. Biden had followed with former President Barack Obama. During the campaign and, if they win, during a Biden-Harris administration, Ms. Harris’s staff hiring would be approved by Mr. Biden.

...

But other Biden advisers made clear that selecting Ms. Harris for the vice presidency did not mean selecting her full political entourage for jobs in the campaign or government. That rule would apply, Ms. Harris was told, even to her sister, Maya Harris, a former Hillary Clinton adviser who is Kamala Harris’s closest confidante.
Quote
Two of the standout interviews were with Ms. Duckworth, an Asian-American veteran of the Iraq war, and Gov. Gina Raimondo of Rhode Island, a centrist with formidable academic and business credentials. Both left the search committee dazzled, but they faced other obstacles — in Ms. Raimondo’s case, her limited national profile and adversarial relationship with influential labor unions.

Ms. Duckworth was regarded by Biden advisers as among the candidates likeliest to help him achieve a smashing electoral victory in November. But legal advisers to the campaign expressed urgent concern that Ms. Duckworth could face challenges to her nomination in court: She was born overseas, to an American father and a Thai mother. While Mr. Biden’s team believed Ms. Duckworth was eligible for national office, campaign lawyers feared that it would take just one partisan judge in one swing state to throw the whole Democratic ticket off the ballot.
Quote
Ms. Rice benefited from her close relationship with Mr. Biden and a concerted push on her behalf by other alumni of the Obama administration
Quote
Mr. Biden was aware of Ms. Bass’s Castro-era baggage well before it spilled into the news media. He told one longtime friend that her history with Cuba could cause political headaches, though to other people he suggested he did not see it as politically disqualifying — he intended to win the election in the Midwest, Mr. Biden told them, even if he were to fall short in Florida.
Quote
One candidate who did forge such a bond with both Joe and Jill Biden was Representative Val Demings of Florida, a former Orlando police chief whom one adviser said the Bidens “loved.” Ms. Demings’s background in law enforcement may have hindered her in the vice-presidential search — Mr. Biden was briefed on specific allegations of police misconduct on her watch — but some Biden advisers are hopeful she will challenge Senator Marco Rubio in the 2022 election.

Let’s wait and see if the outcome is decided by the SCOTUS before we call it the most cursed.

I'm currently leaning towards SCOTUS doesn't rule on the outcome directly but DOES make a key ruling on these extended deadlines for ballots.

Hopefully the Biden campaign can keep the doddering grandpa vibe they had going instead of doing another Im With Her campaign that Kamala and her weirdo stans tried to manifest into reality during the primaries.

In the era of Trump, the process even included considering what derogatory nickname the president might give her.

Biden’s vetting committee asked Harris for her guess, but sources familiar with the process wouldn’t say how close she got to “Phony Kamala” — the moniker President Trump quickly bestowed.

More for the econ thread I guess, but it's just baffling that the Dow is almost at 28,000 again.

Feels like they've priced in another stimulus bill?

Which (if my first post was accurate) makes that bill less likely?

I read a nontrivial number of articles decrying Robinhood investors. Don't really think they can be that influential, but I also haven't kept up on securities on a daily basis since I was an extremely cool teenager. Tough not to draw an analogy to crypto mania awhile back.

e: If your premise is correct on both counts then ironically yes it makes it less likely.

The stock market itself has been anemic, aside from big tech that saw massive fucking gains. Apple, and now Tesla's been propping up activity the last week through the recent stock split news. Also, since interest rates are down, no longer any reason to stow excess money if you have it. Robinhood hype may be driving new retail investors, but large firms still control the vast majority of trading volume.

I have a developing fear that we are finally seeing the stock market fully separating from the rest of the economy, or rather there are now two economies, with the conditions of the elite being reflected in the stock market and the rest through unemployment, evictions and starvation.

I'll say this, if the looming housing crisis ends up even half as bad as predicted, the ensuing chaos will make this past May/June look absolutely tranquil in comparison. And the Dow might make it to 30K.

Yeah they all underestimate uncle Joe.

Also a shame that Hillary didn't jump in again in October like she planned.
Trump would've clobbered her so hard the baby seals in Greenland would've felt sorry for her.

Why is Mike Bloomberg speaking at the DNC? Who exactly is that servicing?

edit: Oh nevermind. I read an article that laid it out.

Bloomberg has already spent well over $350 million for Democrats this cycle, according to his team, including the following investments:

$275 million in anti-Trump ads during his primary campaign
$35 million for a digital and data platform he gives to Democratic campaigns at cost.
$18 million transferred from his campaign to the Democratic Party.
$10 million to House Majority PAC, the lead outside group backing House Democrats.
$5 million to Fair Fight, the voting rights group led by Stacey Abrams.
$2 million to Collective Future, focused on registering Black voters in key states.
$2 million to Swing Left, which supports Democratic volunteer efforts.
$500,000 to Voto Latino, focused on registering young Latino and Hispanic voters.
Altogether, it makes Bloomberg the single biggest donor to the Democrats this year, and it's having an impact on the ground, according to party strategists in battleground states.

Pretty embarrassing that Mikey B gets a platform, but as we all know "he isn't even a Democrat!" only applies to certain people.

Not quite as embarrassing as the Human Rights Campaign scrubbing all its KKKasich content, at least.

Are you denying that his status as an independent was an issue that was broached during the primary?
