I think this is sort of Trump's way to show to Mitch, Romney and the others that if he and his family go down the Republican party goes down with him.  :thinking
With Nikki and Pence you have 8 MAGA Trumpers and 4 others.

Noem is only there because she was part of the effort to put him on Mt. Rushmore and was fishing for Pence's job.
Quote
Ms. Noem greeted him with a four-foot replica of Mount Rushmore that included a fifth presidential likeness: his.

Tim Scott because of the police reform and Kevin because he's the house minority leader. Joni Ernst because she's also up for reelection and Lara Trump couldn't make it?

It's going to be Trump against the establishment again.

I also believe that Don Jr. is the only registered Republican and Ivanka and the rest are all Democrats or not registered at all  :lol

Interesting theory on Twitter.

Theory is that in 2016, states that use electronic voting were hacked to make GOP win, like Georgia.

Trump is trying to ban mail voting because his friends can't hack that.

They both have mouth/lip issues.  The veneers don’t help.

In other news Kellyanne/George Conway’s daughter hates them both and is going ham on twitter.

At a speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Biden’s final address included the lines, “For love is more powerful than hate. Hope is more powerful than fear. And light is more powerful than dark.”

Social media was quick to point out that the words were eerily similar to ones found in a letter Layton wrote before he died in 2011.

“My friends, love is better than anger,” said Layton in his letter. “Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair.”

Biden’s remarks were made two days before the ninth anniversary of Layton’s death.

Sophia Banks, a plant-based chef, tweeted that she was disappointed Biden copied Layton’s comments.

“Jack Layton is trending,” tweeted Banks. “One of Canada’s most beloved politicians. As Biden butchers his dying words left to us.”

Two producers of “The Apprentice,” where Mr. Trump rose to TV stardom, are involved in the planning. Sadoux Kim, a longtime deputy to the “Apprentice” creator Mark Burnett, is a lead consultant on the production. Mr. Kim once served as a Miss Universe judge when Mr. Trump owned the pageant. Chuck LaBella, a former NBC entertainment executive who helped produce “The Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump,” is also on the payroll.

Quote
voters could expect something more akin to a regular convention, with a focus on live onstage moments featuring Mr. Trump, whom aides described as the week’s “talent in chief.”

Quote
The list of speakers is heavy on the president’s relatives and White House staff members, including Dan Scavino, Mr. Trump’s former caddy who is now deputy chief of staff for communications, and Larry Kudlow, the national economic adviser. Rudolph W. Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, will also speak, according to a person involved in the planning.

Something tells me if he loses Trump won't give a speech like this or the one Obama did in 2016.

It'll probably be something like: "Why the hell did you morons vote for Sleepy Joe" in long form.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/18/magazine/border-crossing.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

Quote
As migrants have sought out increasingly remote routes through the desert, more of them have died. This is a fact not seriously disputed by anyone familiar with the problem, including the Border Patrol. But if we are to look at these deaths as the Pima County pathologists do, as a kind of slow-motion epidemic, we must label the desert a proximate, not an ultimate, cause. There are various ultimate causes, but perhaps the plainest, certainly the most traceable, is federal policy. Confronted with images of holding pens and parentless children, it would be easy to assume the policy began with President Trump, the latest face of a revived —

In 1993, the Border Patrol apprehended over 1.2 million people trying to migrate without documentation. Bill Clinton entered office that year pledging to “get serious” about the problem, and in a strategic plan the following year, the Border Patrol introduced “prevention through deterrence” (the quotation marks are original). It called for an increase in security around border cities like Tijuana, El Paso and Nogales. As more agents assembled in these places, the thinking went, undocumented migrants would try to cross in increasingly remote areas, where the land and the elements would take over. “Mountains, deserts, lakes, rivers and valleys form natural barriers to passage,” the plan read. “Temperatures ranging from subzero along the northern border to the searing heat of the southern border affect illegal entry traffic as well as enforcement efforts. Illegal entrants crossing through remote, uninhabited expanses of land and sea along the border can find themselves in mortal danger.” Doris Meissner, commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service at the time, said later that “it was our sense that the number of people crossing through Arizona would go down to a trickle once people realized” how dangerous it was.

“Prevention through deterrence” worked. Apprehensions increased, reaching a peak of nearly 1.7 million in 2000. So did deaths. Migrant deaths weren’t new. People had always died trying to cross. It was where they were dying now, and how. Previously, the most common forms of death involved traffic accidents or drowning; migrants were hit by vehicles as they tried to run across Interstate 10 into El Paso, for instance, or went under when the Tijuana River flooded. Now they were dying on ranch lands and in mountain ranges and in the desert, of exposure, dehydration, heat stroke. Certain victims the desert took quickly. Others suffered more. “It is not unusual to find bodies of migrants who in a confused state have removed their clothing in freezing weather or attempted to drink desert sand to satisfy thirst in extreme heat,” according to one report from the American Civil Liberties Union and Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission. “Disoriented, migrants sometimes fall on cacti or rocks, suffering blunt trauma and lacerations in different parts of the body.”

Yeah, hospitals been asking for Plasma from people who recovered from coronavirus for months now. It's a good thing that it's recognized as an official therapeutic now.

Quote

The Food and Drug Administration will issue an emergency authorization for blood plasma as a coronavirus treatment, according to three administration officials.

The agency held off on the decision over concerns from government scientists that evidence for the treatment's effectiveness is thin — prompting President Donald Trump to accuse the FDA of slow-walking the therapy to harm his reelection chances.

https://ucommblog.com/section/safety/trumps-nlrb-bans-bargaining-covid-19-safety

Quote
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has released a series of decisions regarding COVID-19. These decisions are the first guidance that the board has given since the pandemic started in March.

In a series of five memos to their regional directors the NLRB instructed them to dismiss various cases regarding COVID-19 related charges against employers. The board concluded that an employer is not obligated to engage in midterm bargaining regarding union proposals for paid sick leave and hazard pay because of the ongoing pandemic. They also said that an employer does not have to bargain about a temporary closure.

In regards to workers speaking up about a dangerous situation on the job, the board has decided that an individual speaking out about a company's COVID safety procedure is not protected speech. This means that they can be fired by their employer. This guidance came after a case was filed by a nurse who was fired after for refusing to work at a nursing home that was requiring workers to share isolation gowns.

While this decision is not unexpected by the NLRB, it does give employers much more freedom into unilaterally creating work standards during COVID-19. This gives employers significantly more latitude for forcing workers into possibly dangerous workplace situations as COVID-19 continues to rage across the United States.

What

Either the party has gone bonkers or their internal data and polling shows something the public polls don't.
Their polling likely says the same thing public polls would: nobody cares about party platforms.

It's not even all irregular historically for re-election conventions to simply endorse the incumbent administration.

Yes, true, it's not been so much a recent thing, 1944 is closest to one that generally looks like one. Although 1972 was a pretty hefty copy-paste with a preamble attached that looks a lot like this one.

For the purposes of Nintex's comment though, I'd argue it happened a lot more when the party's themselves cared more about the party platform. The easy way to paper over dissent within the party was simply to praise the incumbent administration while not taking stands on tarriffs or silver or whatever. Was pretty common with Republican administrations post-Civil War to do this when there was an incumbent to praise instead.

I read this paragraph in NYC Mag and it dawned on me something that feels so forever ago actually happened this year.

Quote
A case can be made that the apex of Donald Trump’s presidency occurred early this year, around the time of the State of the Union address. The Feb. 4 speech to a joint session of Congress began with Trump’s ignoring the outstretched hand of Speaker Nancy Pelosi — a pointed snub of the Democrat who, two months earlier, led his impeachment. For the next 78 minutes, Trump boasted about his accomplishments, like building an economy that “is the best it has ever been”; dished out red meat to his base, such as pledging a national ban on late-term abortions; and theatrically dispensed favors, including a Presidential Medal of Freedom for the conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Jerry Jr. got the boot at Liberty:

Jerry Falwell Jr. resigned Monday as president of Liberty University after 13 years at the helm of the prominent evangelical Christian school, according to multiple media reports, marking an end to the embattled leader's tumultuous tenure.

Politico confirmed the news with a Liberty University spokesperson. NBC News could not immediately confirm the report.

Falwell's departure comes after the school placed him on an indefinite leave of absence on Aug. 7. In a statement Friday, Liberty officials had said the "decision whether or not to retain Falwell as president has not yet been made."
